My RE says it's painless and quick. No more than 10 minutes tops. I'm nervous and told not to do research on it since everyone has a horror story. I've heard it's very painful... anyone want to calm my fears and tell me it was fine and no big deal when they had it done?? I'm scheduling mine for Friday.

Also, on WebMD it says this is not done while on your period... however he schedules them for 2 to 4 days after AF arrives. Is that normal??

As you can see I listen real well and don't do any research hahahah:dohh::dohh::dohh:

Hi HappilyMrs :hi:

I had my HSG done just yesterday and was freaking myself out with reading horror stories, big mistake:nope: I even had a nightmare 2 days before my HSG. But it ended up not being so bad. It's a little uncomfortable when they attach the catheter in and when they start injecting the contrast fluid but no pain to really speak of. I had some very minor spotting afterwards but they gave me a panty liner for both that and the residual contrast fluid coming out. The doctor was very experienced in doing them and really good at letting me know what was happening. She was very nice actually:flower:

I think your best option is to remain relaxed as I think some people experience pain or worsen their pain because they're uptight and stressing. The doctor was very interested in getting me to relax before she did anything and breath deepily. If you're really worried about pain, maybe take some pain killers about 1 hour before? Remember to take a panty liner with you in case your doctor doesn't think to give you one.

Sounds strange that he'd schedule it while you're bleeding though:shrug: It should be when you've stopped bleeding but before O, should be no later than CD10, maybe CD11 max (when I had mine). I'd ask him about that.

Hope it goes well and that you get some good results:happydance:

By the way, I'll be starting my 1st IUI January 2015 as well:) Couldn't reach to start in December because of the clinic being closed between Christmas and New Years when they'd expect to induce O.

Hey Kat,

I am so glad your HSG was quick and painless!

I suspect there are several reasons why it could be more painful for some women. You are most likely correct about being relaxed and I also think it may be harder for women who have blockages. If the fluid flows through easily, there shouldn't be much pain. With mine the doc had to force it through which almost had me passing out and they still didn't find the right tube at all.

I have read that this could make you way more fertile your first three cycles! YAY!! Hope to see your happy :bfp: dance soon!

Yes I can see that a blockage would make it more painful. But yes it must also have to do with being relaxed as the doctor doing it was very interested in getting me to relax before touching me much. Doesn't sound very pleasant that yours tried to force it through the blockage, is that normal procedure with a blockage:wacko:

Yes it should:thumbup: The radiologist said as much when I asked her how soon DH and I could start BDing since I was expecting to O 2 days later (now I think I ended up Oing the day after). She encouraged us to start BDing as quickly as possible because given my tubes were clear and I don't have hormone issues and DH is still within the normal (albeit on the slightly lower end), that our chances for a BFP are increased the next few cycles. Some say the effects can last for up to 6 cycles but we'll see.

Hello!!!

Just wanted to put my 2 cents in. I had my HSG not long ago and it was fine. I have a retroverted uterus so it was difficult for her to get the catheter in place which was a little painful, but other than that, it was quick and easy. I also didn't have an blockages so that might also contribute to it being less painful. I had spotting for a couple of days afterwards which is normal. Is it scheduled for today? GL!

Kat: I have heard that some women ovulate early after the test.

I am sending you baby dust and crossing my fingers for you. Hope the HSG helps and you have a :bfp: for the new year!

Thanks LotusBlooms:flower:

Yeah but it seems some also O later which is what I was hoping so we could get more BDing in but oh well:shrug: We definitely got 1 before and I think the 2nd was shortly after I'd Oed so we'll see:happydance:

If it's going to be in time for New Years, then it should come now as next time I'll O (if I have my normal 26 day cycle) will be December 23rd:winkwink:
