Hi, I hope you don't mind me dropping in here. Some of you may have seen me around the ttc section in the past, although for quite a while now I've been sticking to journals. I've been lurking :shy: but this is the first time I've ventured in here and I'm hoping you may be able to help me ...

I've very recently had an HSG (and I am on the course two antibiotics) and I've had conflicting comments from two nurses, one who said we we don't need to take a break this next cycle and the other who said we should because of the dye, although if contraception failed there really wouldn't be any risk . Apparently it's only very recently they've been told to advise against for the first cycle after the HSG and they haven't changed anything in the procedure.

Has anyone else had it recently? What were you advised?

Thanks in advance ...

I had a lap and dye in december and the leaflet I go explaining it said I could start BDing again when I felt ready so I would have thought it would be the same for a HSG

Hi, I recently had an HSG test and I asked the same question. I read a post that said I would have to wait due to radiation. I asked my Dr. and she told me to continue :sex: as usual. She said that many women get pregnant within a few cycles after the HSG because it "cleans" out the tubes. There would be very little lasting effects of the radiation (no more than we are exposed to on a regular basis). Hope this helps!

I was told to keep trying and you are more fertile for the next three months. Good luck!

I was told u can ttc right away, which i did and fell preg :hugs:

Hi I had my HSG done in the June, was to start treatment stright away, IUI was cancelled July due to smear test on NHS not up to scratch and was pregnant by the aug my self... My friend who had been trying for 4yrs also had her HSG Sept and was pregnant by Dec but she was also on clomid..... So good luck I used to think these things only happened to others...

Thank you all for your responses, they've really helped. I've decided to carry on as we are without worrying about adding condoms to the equation.

Thank you again and here's hoping a tube flush is all I need!

Good plan, however we did abstain or use condoms before the hsg, just incase u ov early. Many hospitals make u sign to say u havent been ttc before the hsg. But after as soon as u feel up to it, go for it and good luck. XXX

Snowdrop - I had the same dilema - I was advised against TTC 1 month after my HSG, but decided to ignore it after advice from this site.

I just had an HSG and when it was over my doctor actually said he wanted me to "try hard this month" re: trying to get pregnant.
Good luck with TTC!
