I only have one tube and the hsg today showed its blocked. My doc said that the only thing to do now is IVF, but isn't there a surgery I can have to unblock my tube? I would much rather go that route first if possible, just because I have heard IVF is very expensive, as our insurance doesn't cover any procedures having to do with fertility issues.

Also I thought it was strange, but I didn't have any dye leak back out after the hsg. Is that unusual? It was my understanding that it would.

I have also been reading about situations where the tube is in spasm because of the catheter entering the uterus. My hsg did not go smoothly, they couldn't get the catheter to enter my cervix so they tried 5 different ones before they actually got one to go in, and the pain was very intense to the point I actually asked them to stop, I just couldn't stand it any longer and almost fainted. Is it possible that because of all the different things that were tried before actually getting it to enter that my tube just spasmed very bad and isn't really blocked? Maybe that's also why I have not had any dye leaking out?

You can have a lap to confirm whether or not the tube is actually blocked. If it is, the doc can try to unblock it right there. Its called cannulization I think. I had both done though it didn't work. There are several ladies on this board who have had it and it opened up their tubes. After my lap I started taking serrapeptase and had a follow up hsg 5 months later, my right tube is now open. No BFP yet though. Tubes are tricky. It can be opened but the cilia within the tube, the hairs that transport the egg to the uterus, may be damaged. There is no way to check the cilia though.

I have recently had a Laparotomy and my fertility specialist has managed to repair both of my tubes. Still recovering though. Try repair hun, always get a second opinion. My first Specialist told me nothing could be done, my only option was ivf.. so always ask plenty of questions and get a second opinion. Good Luck Hun :hugs: I will be setting a Thread up for ladies ttc with Tubal issues shortly. massive :hugs:

I had my first appointment with our fs last Thursday, he was very sure that clearing out my tube will work for us. So my laparoscopic surgery is scheduled November 8th. I'm very excited!! I just keep thinking this will get us one step closer to having our little one :happydance:

Leah1984, I'm so glad your surgery went well!! Are you having much trouble healing? I've had laparoscopic before, but I didn't know if this one would be different since it's for something different. Also my doctor prescribed Misoprostol too take the night before and morning of surgery, did you have to take this also? If so, did it cause any bad side effects or cramping?

 Blue, sorry for the late reply i've only just come across it hun.:dohh:

Thank you very much luv, means allot! I Had a Lap done in June before my tubal surgery, that was my very first op but was fine. It was uncomfortable. I had 3 incisions, One through my belly button, one to the left of it and one further down. I think the gas was the most painful, they put gas into your stomach to extend it, and it sure does that.
I had it done under a general anesthetic, that itself made me poorly for a few days. Took me 3 weeks and i was back to my fit self agn. My period came an hour before my op ( embarrassed ) but no luv, nothing otherwise. x

It was nothing compared to this one i've just had Laparotomy & Salpingostomy ill be honest with you, that was awful! what procedure are you actually having? what did your doctor say? :flower:

All the very best for you lap, you have a fantastic chance once that's done.

here is my new thread ive stared, so any ladies who want a consistent support through this journey right up to the day we have our beautiful baby& further. Just a nice place to chat about anything, symptoms, compare notes and feelings and a good old moan x

Thank you for starting that thread, I'll definitely join!

My doc told me he is doing just the lap surgery and he will unblock my tube during that. He is also going to be looking at a fibroid tumor inside of my uterus during that procedure and may remove that also if it looks like it will cause any trouble to a future pregnancy. Although I don't really understand how he would be able to do something inside of my uterus during a lap surgery. I'm sure he knows what he's doing though, he comes very highly recommended. I just can't wait to get it done and be healed up so that we can start ttcing again!!

Hi blue, sorry for the late reply, things have been hectic the last couple of days due to me going bk into work :happydance:

Oh you will be fine Hun, the lap is uncomfortable after but u can get started fairly quickly asking as there is no other problems. How did the doc find out I had a blocked tube. U can conceive easily with the one, my sisters have 4 kids each and they only have one tube.

Wow ud be amazed how they do a lap. It's 3 probes if I'm correct, mine were. They use a camera and burn anything away that shouldn't be there. Have a look on YouTube for vids, I watched a few which gave me an understanding to what they were goin to be doing! They know what they are doing but it's nice to kno yourself lol well sometimes!!! Good luck luv, only jus over a week!
I am goin to post this copy on our new thread, this way we can carry it on from there. X

How much Serrapeptase do you take? I just had my second HSG done on Friday. The first one was back in Feb and my right tube was blocked (left one was fine) and doctor unblocked it. But now the right one is blocked again and the left one was hard to get the dye through. I'm not sure if it's because I was in so much pain that I was squirming or what. But I know this second HSG was WAY more painful than the first, and it was also a different doctor. I just ordered Serrapeptase (40,000 dosage) and I'm going to try it. I also have an appointment on base with my doctor here to figure out what's causing the reoccuring blockage.

I took 120,000 units everyday for four months. Good luck!

How long did it take to unblock?? And is it true that if you are tensing during the HSG your tubes can appear blocked without being blocked?

unblocking the tubes is an option!? This is an exciting possibility my doctor has not even told me about! Has anyone heard of things that make it impossible to even try to unblock them? Anyone that has had this done, have you had to take a lot of time off to heal? Any success stories?

Both of my tubes were blocked... My doctor had to go in during my 2nd HSG (the "in-depth HSG") and he said that to unblock them they would use a microscopic wire brush looking thing and clear them out. They were completely clear after that. That was Dec of 2013. In June of this last year, with the assistance of trigger shots, Femara, ultrasounds, lots of medication and patience I ovulated on my own and became pregnant.

So they can definitely unblock your tubes!! Mine are 100% clear now!

I had a tubal ligation reversed 2 years ago which is almost the same procedure they use to open a blocked tube if Lap doesn't work. They will cut out the blocked section and reconnect your tube. I only have 1 tube open after my surgery so there is a slight possibility it won't work. However, it works for the majority of women who have it done. Good luck!!
