HSG

I'm having my HSG test done on the 17th of August along with a hysteroscopy. I am being put under for this so hopefully I don't feel any pain at all. I just hate hospitals!!!

I had one last year, read all sorts of stories all over the internet about it being painful even if for only a few mins and then hurst for days after.............WELL its was nothing, didnt hurt me at all, perhaps i was lucky but honestly, it was like a bad period ache for about 10 seconds made me go ahhhhhh for about 2 seconds then it went........was nothing compared to the child birth we will all go through I imagine :) Truley wouldnt worry, its not worse than a smear test! xx

Hi Jasmine,

I had an HSG a few monthe ago. For me it was the same as a smear, but just took a little longer. As with a smear the speculum was uncomfortable but I didn;t feel anything else at all. I took paracetamol and ibuprofen an hour before.

Try to relax and try breathing to numbers, ie count to 3 slowly on the inbreath and same on the out. Helps you relax. Concentrate on not tensing up. You will be fine. Let us know how it goes.

caline, brumbar, me and dh ended up bd-ing on the morning of the day I was supposed to go in for the hsg, and when I googled it, I found that you are not supposed to do that 24 hours prior to the hsg, so I ended up calling my doctor and cancelling till next month. but to be honest I think i was just too scared and since me and dh had not been at a good 'place' with each other for a few days, i dont think I would have emotionally been able to bare it.
So till next month. Thanks for all your support. I hope I will be able to go through it next month.

Jasmine,

I understand what you mean about being scared. I was quite scared too, but am so glad that I made it there becaue I found out that my left tube is a huge problem in my fertility and I need to have it removed. As scary as it is, there is relief in knowing.

Best wishes and goodluck next time around.

I had an HSG
Not to scare you but I ended up in hospital for intravenous antibiotics with a nasty pelvic infection after my HSG. Please please please go to your doctor if you have a fever, chills or severe abdominal pain afterwards.
On another more positive note, the HSG confirmed problems with one of my tubes, which has now been removed.
Also, take a couple of anti-inflammatories before as it will help with the discomfort/cramps
Good luck
xx

I am curious to know if any of you ladies who had an HSG had a cycle longer than normal the month of the test?

My periods are normally every 29 days and today is day 31 - I am planning to test tomorrow. But was wondering what your experiences are?

Mind came bang on time love but it rarely changes, i would test hun, you are actually slightly more fertile after a HSG, the thought is is there is a blockage of sorts it can be cleared out, it kind of gives your tubes a clean and therefore eggies can pass through more easily, let us know how you get on and good luck x

Definetly take something before as I didnt and my experience was not so nice but mainly afterwards lots of cramping. I do have a tilted uterus so I think that may have added to the pain that I experienced. You should be fine. I told my Dr I didnt like him anymore after that experience. I have heard you are more fertile afterward but I wasnt allowed to try for a few months after because I had just had an ectopic. Best of Luck.

Hi all

I tested today and it was negative. I had an HSG this month and my period is 3 days late. I will wait 3 days and test again if my period doesn't come. Gosh this is quite stressful!

Bloody HSG!

I just had one this cycle and I think it made it a few days later........we will see when af actually comes. I think today I am 1dpo whereas I was supposed to be 3 or 4 dpo.

Hi all,
I had an HSG in May this year,I hate to say but it was awful ,I experienced no pain like it before, the tears were rolling down my cheeks and I was squeezing the nurses hand so hard, The doctor asked if i wanted to stop ,but I suffered on! There were no blockages found.
Anyway they say you are more fertile for around 3/4 months afterwards, I didnt hold much hope because I have been ttc for over 2 years and im 33, with unexplained fertility.
Good news however, I tested on monday past and I got a BFP.

I believe my HSG helped me and the only other thing i did differently was I started to take 800g of folic acid instead of the recommended 400, during this month.

Hi all

This post is about late period after an HSG.

I am day 36 and I had an HSG on day 14 - tubes nice and clear. I still don't have any signs of a period and have done three tests - all negative.

I just phoned Hammersmith and the sister said give it another week. Surely if I was pregnant a test would have picked it up by now?

Question for all you cycle-gurus - if i don't get a period at all will I ovulate as normal next month?

I am SO confused and the medical world has no answers!! Just wait and see. I want to know NOW!!!

Hi Pink Pony, give it another week, in some people the pregnancy hormone takes a few days to build up. wishing you all the best though.
