It's booked!
It's finally booked

Now I'm scared :haha:

Will I be able to get a general result straight away?
Like, "There may be a slight bloackage" or "Everything looks clear"

Any advice. . . ? :flower:

:hugs:

Hiya :-)

I had a HSG a few yrs ago and they can tell pretty much there and then if all is ok, as you can actually watch the dye flow through the tubes (or not if there is a blockage) if you wish. Obviously the results will have to be discussed and then they should let you know the same day. What i will say though, is that i found this procedure very painful(i have had a lot of procedures so i am used of pain and i found this to be agony)
I would say if possible take 2 strong painkillers and maybe a valium around 40 mins before you have the HSG. It was when they were inserting the catheter into the womb that it was terribly painful. Once it was in place and the balloon expanded to release the dye i felt nothing. My tubes were clear... weird since i ended up having 2 ectopics and losing both tubes in the end... Good luck hope all goes well and that u don't find the procedure too painful xxx

Yep i was told then and there that both tubes were clear. The results were sent to my FS/OB that same afternoon.

hi - yes the radiographer told me after the HSG that he could see both tubes so didnt look like any blockages - FS confirmed that at my next appointment too.

Good luck  - take some painkillers an hr or so before the procedure.

Hi I had my HSG done in April this year but wasn't told the results whilst there. I had to wait to see my consultant but I suppose different places have different procedures.

Before going to have mine done I read lots of horror stories about the pain and was extremely nervous about it, but I can honestly say there was no pain just a bit of discomfort. I thought having a smear was worse!

Hope it all goes well :)

Thanks ladies :flower:

How long do I have to wait before I can drive again?

:flow: x x x x x

They advise you to get someone to drive you to and from your app. After that it all depends on how much pain you're in and if you feel able to drive x

Hi. I got the results then and there and confirmed by FS at next appt. I drove straight away (well, they asked me to sit in the waiting room for 20 mins 1st)! Good luck, as some ladies conceive after their HSG as small blockages / debris may be moved by the dye. X

I was told to take someone with me so they can drive me home - but honestly i could of easily drove myself - any pain I had was during the procedure and I got the odd twinge afterwards for a day or two but nothing that would make you not able to drive. I think its just a precaution incase you get severe pain in the middle of driving home and crash or something....

Good Luck :flower:

I had mine in June, but I also had a lap so I was under general anasthetic. But if you just have the HSG I heard you can actually watch the dye go up the tubes on the screen!!!
Ive been told by my consultant pretty much as soon as I came to and could understand what was being said to me

I did feel some sever cramps for a few hours after the procedure but not sure if it was from the lap or the HSG so I wouldn't recommend driving yourself!

Ohh I hope they let me watch it go through!

Hya hun

When i had mine done my nurse went thru the results with me after the procedure.
I found the procedure itself not very pleasant i have to say, cudnt wait for it to be over. As has been said, take some painkillers beforehand as that not alf helps. I was able to drive straight away as well.

hopefully urs wont be too bad for u..good luck xxxx

Sorry to interfere ... What's a lap ? Sorry for being dumb! :)

A "Lap" is short for laparotomy and is a operation involving usually a cut into the bellybutton, where a camera is inserted to check the womb/ovaries and tubes and is always done under a general. xxx

CLH - what africaqueen said

My gynae said he'd like to do everything at the same time so I was put under and all was checked :winkwink:

I have to make my appointment for next cycle but in my instructions they say that you should not drive until 4 hours later. That's an issue since I live 30 miles away and my DH doesn't not drive. But the hospital I am going to said I should arrive 1 hour before the procedure so that they can give me pain relief.

Hi Maaybe2010 - and all others.

Maaybe2010 - I understand being a little scared of the HSG. I actually had one failed attempt at one because my OB was unable to pass the catheter through my cervix. (Yes he does his own in the office).

Anyway, I was terrified on the second attempt, and he actually ended up having to dilate my cervix, which caused nothing more than period-like cramps. The actual fluid injection felt like nothing at all and I didn't even know it was done. He told me right then and there that everything was "perfect".

I hope you get the same results!

Once it is all over and done with, you'll wonder what you were so worried about! Good Luck and let us know how things go!

Wendy

I just had one last month! doc told me right away that my tubes were clear. it was not painful at all....just really sticky and wet...lol
best of luck!! nothing to be afraid of...if you do have a blockage at least you'll find it and get the problem solved, if your tubes are clear, that is great news!! good luck!!
