Hi girls, I'm here looking for some reassurance and advice and hoping somebody will be able to point me in the right direction.

A little bit about myself and OH... I'm 26, he is 31 we have a 3 year old daughter who we conceived within 2 cycles and previously to that I had a molar pregnancy which again I conceived really quickly on our 1st cycle of trying.

This time around we got to cycle 9 and thought hmmm something isn't right surely? We got caught so quickly the last 2 times. So I went to get my progesterone levels checked which came back completely normal which confirmed I am definitely ovulating so my OH was sent for a semen analysis test. I think we both had a gut feeling that it was going to come back as not normal and low and behold it has.

My OH is beside himself, he's feeling really low and stressed out and is blaming himself. Our GP has said he will refer us to an infertility specialist so I guess in the meantime we just have to wait it out.

So my questions are, looking at the results below are any other ladies going through the same thing?
What do you suggest that we try at home, are there any specific herbal remedies/vitamins that we should try? thankyou so much girls in advance xx

Hi there Tinadecember,
I have struggled with MFI for awhile now. I have a post as Male Factor Infertility in the forums here and gave more details about what I'm doing. Ihave noticed a huge improvement. My regiment:

3x 100 MG of Co-Q10 / 1 morning - 1 noon - 1 evening
3x 1500 MG of Vitamin C Time extended release / 1 morning - 1 noon - 1 evening
1x Time Release Vitamin B-100 Ultra B-Complex / 1 noon
2x 400 MU of Vitamin E / 1 noon - 1 evening
1x Men Daily multivitamin with 87mg of Selenium / 1 morning
6x 1000MG of Fish Oils (Omega 3) / 2 morning - 2 noon - 2 evening
4x 50MG of Maritime Pine Bark Extract 2 morning - 2 evening
6x 500MG L-Carnitine / 2 morning - 2 noon - 2 evening (no food)
3x 1000MG of L-Arginine / 1 morning - 1 noon - 1 evening (no food)
6x 500MG of Maca / 2 morning - 2 noon - 2 evening
2x 50MG of Selenium / 1 noon - 1 evening
2x 25MG of Zinc /1 noon - 1 evening
3x Veinsmart by Lorna Vanderhaeghe / 1 morning - 1 noon - 1 evening
1x 5ML of Creatine / 1 morning with my protein and fiber.
5x 500ML Water / all day and while taking these

Thankyou so much that is a huge help!

So inbetween taking these vitamins have you been having more semen analysis tests done? If you don't mind me asking how has it affected them?

Thanks x

Your hubby's numbers are very similar to what my hubby's numbers were, or at least in the same ballpark more or less. He had 20 mil/ml concentration after 5 days of abstinence, 30% rapid motility, and 0.5% morphology. We were able to conceive after just a month of him taking fertility supplements after having tried for almost two years. He took Fertilaid for Men, Countboost and Motility boost.

We had conceived our first child in eight months, but it took nearly two years to conceive child #2. Most of that time we just assumed I was problem based on some bad advice from our fertility specialist. Her reasoning was that since hubby's sperm met the minimum for sperm concentration, and almost met the minimum for motility, he should have been able to get me pregnant in time. She did not factor in the morphology because of all the mixed studies on its impact. She felt our troubles were due to my age even though my labs were excellent. We had also had another doctor look at hubby's results sometime after that and his conclusion was much different. He thought hubby's sperm was really bad and that he needed to see a urologist. I dismissed his advice however since he had been able to father a child with me, in addition to three with his ex wife. Bad move!

So based on my FS's advice, we proceeded to try three rounds of clomid/bravelle/ovidrel and timed intercourse. I produced perfect eggs and lining each time. I also had lap surgery, which found only minor stuff that should not have affected my fertility. After the surgery and our last failed clomid cycle, we decided to focus on hubby's sperm because finally came to the conclusion that nothing was wrong with me after that.

So the long and short of it is is that there is a good chance that your hubby's sperm can improve in a short amount of time--although for most it's going to take a minimum of three months with vitamins. If it's not a supplement issue, then there are other things that can affect it that can also be fixed easily. The good thing is that since you and your hubby conceived before, there is likely nothing majorly wrong that can't be fixed.

Good luck!

You are very welcome! I did have tests done prior to the vitamins and afterwards. I did have a bump in everything across the board from count to morphology. I have a lot more in my original post athttps://babyandbump.momtastic.com/problems-trying-conceive/2116801-male-factor-infertility.htm. I'm happy to help as much as I can - I have been doing this for so long it is nice to offer any advice

Hi Tina,

Yes - we are going through the same thing! Although my DH's results were quite a bit worse than yours. We have a wonderful DS who is 4 years old and was conceived on month #5 of trying. About 4 years before that I am 99% sure I had a m/c although I didn't know I was pregnant at the time and it was early. Anyway we started TTC #2 in Dec. 2011 and nothing. Same as you after a while figured something wasn't right as I have all the typical O symptoms so went to the Dr but they wouldn't test until after 1 year. After 1 year went back - I had my Day 21 blood test which was good and DH eventually went for a SA.... You can see the results in my signature.... We were more than shocked to say the least but our Dr was so positive that things can change we weren't very proactive in doing anything else other than cutting down on alcohol (which we don't drink much anyway). Since we already eat very healthily, exercise, are non-smokers etc I didn't really know what else to do. DH never has baths or hot tubs and always wears boxers. He finally went for a 2nd SA in Oct (again results below) which were basically worse than the first.... He took Fertilaid for 2 months but didn't like them (for various reasons) so stopped but he does take a normal multi-vitamin which he has taken for years..... Next week he is finally seeing the urologist so I have my fingers tightly crossed that we will get some answers and good advice. I am so confused as to what might have changed over the last 5 years to cause this..... or maybe DS was a complete miracle....there is probably no way to know.

My best advice for now is if he is willing to, take some vitamins - Cali's DH took Fertilaid like mine, although obviously much better at taking them plus I think he took the count boost and motility boost as well which DH didn't want. Try him on some of those and just the basics of making sure he eats well, doesn't drink much alcohol, doesn't smoke, exercises etc, drinks lots of water, wears boxers etc and avoids hot baths.....

Anyway if you want to talk I am here cause I am going through what you are and understand everything you are feeling - I am just a year further down the line than you. I still remain hopeful that something will change I just don't know what at this point or how and so in the meantime it's just a case of waiting.... Most frustrating thing about sperm is how long it takes for changes to happen!!!

Wishing you the best :hugs:

Thank you everybody for your advice! I feel like I'm getting somewhere already because I'd never even heard of fertilaid. I've just ordered the fertilaid along with the motility boost and count boost. Quite expensive but we're willing to give anything a try! It's really reassuring to know that we're not going through this alone and that there's somebody to talk to about it apart from your DH! xx

Good luck with the Fertilaid! Yes they are expensive and I struggled with that too. It's a shame that the only way you know if they are going to work is to try them out with how much they cost. A lot of the ingredients in it, like the coq10, are very expensive even if they are bought separately so there's really no way around paying the money.

The way I rationalized it, even if you don't get a bfp, it should still be beneficial should you need to pursue other options, so it won't be money totally wasted. And if it does work, of course the vitamins will seem like a bargain!

Please update if you get a bfp!! I'm rooting for you!

of course I will keep you up to date :) it's ovulation day today, my hubby has been holding it in for a couple of days to see if it makes a difference, I guess time will tell but I'm not holding out much hope.

I'm willing to try anything and pay any amount of money if it means we get a BFP xx
