I posted a thread the other day about my husband being off work due to having a fall and hurting his ribs. He has been off since Monday and work have let him have this week off as annual leave so we don't lose any money. OH was hoping to go back in on Monday.

Today after lunch OH coughed and then yelled out in pain, started struggling to breathe, couldn't move and went white.. I thought he had punctured his lung so I rang 999 and they sent an ambulance and took him into hospital. Luckily his lung hasn't punctured but coughing has caused muscular damage and the hospital have advised OH stays off work for a minimum of 2 weeks but could be off for as much as 6 weeks.

The company OH works for doesn't pay company sick pay.. He can claim SSP when he has been off for a week or more (not including this week) and SSP is around £80 per week.

Hubby's weekly wages are £240 a week and we are struggling on that so £80 isn't going to touch the sides with our bills and we aren't going to be able to afford to do a food shop.

I'm panicking like mad now, we've got no one that can help us and I don't know what to do :(

I've applied for loads of jobs but I don't think I'll be lucky enough to get one immediately.

If you think you might fall behind on bills you need to contact the companies ASAP, you usually pay council tax in 10 months so they'll be able to stop a month & add it onto the end. Other companies will also do similar things if you tell them in advance.

Hope he's back at work soon, but really do keep all of the companies informed, they get it a lot where people are struggling temporarily and they will put things in place to help you I promise.
xx

Go to CA, or job centre, you may be entitled to some benefits due to drop in income. May not get money immediately but they will back date. You may also get some tax back.

The local cab should be able to help. They can help you contact all the companies and explain the situation. They might also refer you to your local food bank so at least you can eat.
