OK so im probably just being a worry wart... but my hubby brought this to my attention.. previously for him he has had a girlfriend that had a miscarriage and a stillborn.. and we have suffered a miscarriage too.. Im probably being paranoid because he said the miscarriage and still born were with a girlfriend that smoked heavily thru the pregnancy... i guess i just want some reassurance that it has nothing to do with this pregnancy... can anyone chime in??

it has been scientifically proven that smoking in pregnancy can cause miscarriage and birth defects, and if she was smoking heavily it could well have contributed. especially to the stillbirth, as heavy smoking would inhibit oxygen getting to baby.

Im sure it was just really, really bad luck hun :hugs: if you are very concerned, could you talk to your doctor about it? I know that chromosomal abnormalities can cause miscarriages so i guess if there was a problem with the sperm then that would cause a problem in the baby. but a lot of sperm in healthy men are abnormal anyway, out of the total number of the little guys in one lot of ejaculate, i think its something ridiculous like just 30% of them are capable of actually making a baby, lol (although dont hold me to that, im unsure of the actual figures)

Im sure everything will be okay sweetie :hugs:

eckarta, try not to worry, sounds like he has just been really unlucky.

A specialist recently told me that only about 15% of miscarriages are caused by faulty sperm (though this rises if the man is over 40). And a very few men have genes that mean miscarriage is more likely (there are "karyotyping" tests for this, but they are expensive and doctors say they are not appropriate unless a couple has had recurrent losses).

Best wishes for your pregnancy.

Thanks ladies!! i told hubby that i either need to stay off the internet all together or find a hobby to take my mind off of everything.. you can litterally worry yourself sick!!! im gonna start reading :)

I think im focusing on the symptoms.. and sometimes the lack of symptoms... today its the killer cramps!!! hhahahah

Smoking could be a big factor in his ex's problems. No matter what anyone says it increases your risk of stillbirth quite high. I would say that's probably the main reason why she may have had problems.

I'm sure you'll be fine :hugs:

Recommend reading and trashy, escapist TV to take mind off things!
