Hey Girls,

My hubby's freaking out majorly over the side effects and risks linked with Clomid.

He's really hung up on the increased chance of twins. What can i do or say to reasure him?

Anna

Well, I have just finished 6 months of it and it can vary alot from person to person. When I first started on it I had hot flushes and was irritable towards the end I was just hot. The long term risks are debatable as there has been no firm evidence to suggest that they can cause harm. I totally understand how you feel and to be honest before I started on them I was scared too!

So many women have had good results on it though.

Have you had HSG and laparoscopy yet, before they put you on this?

no i've not had either of these tests!

no i didint have any of those tests before i was put on, i think it depends why they are putting you on it, mine was for irregular periods xx

Is it just the twins thing or is it the mood swings/increased risk of cancer etc when you're taking it?

There are some scary sounding side effects with Clomid but I would've taken it. I reckon if you read the back of any medication too closely you wouldn't take it. We ended up going straight to IVF and there is a serious risk of twins with that! (see Avatar).

Seriously though, you have to discuss what you see as your limitations in terms of treatment as a couple. There's nothing stopping you starting on the Clomid and backing out if the side-effects are too unbearable.

Meant to add... it really annoys me that FS put women on Clomid without doing a laparoscopy or HSG first. Put bluntly... if you have blocked tubes you can send out 20 eggs a month but it won't help you get PG and it's a waste of 6 months of trying.

Lazy doctors!

I know this is a stupid question but would you still ovulate if your tubes were blocked? I have a short luteal phase and wondered whether that could affect it? ive not been tested for my tubes yet

Hey anna,

My DH did exactly the same thing when 'twins' were mentioned. We had talked about going private to speed things up, but once DH heard this, we decided to try the NHS route first (as it is sooooooooooooo slow) to give him some time to get used to the idea.

Two months later, we're talking about going private again because he's so impatient! Just have to see how his 2nd SA goes this week.....

Yeah you could still be ovulating if your tubes were blocked but the egg would never meet the swimmers. Not sure about the short luteal phase though...

i'm off to see gp tonight to get answers and hopefully my prescription!

Hi aflight hope all goes wel at GP! The best advise that Ican give you is to drink plenty of water when on clomid!

Good luck!!

GP was fab. she's given me two months supply.
why drink loads of water?!

The water, I found really helped with the flushes that you may get also best to keep the body hydrated, flush out any waste toxins and also make sure the meds get to go to the right parts!

Couldn't agree more Helen!
