Huge Gas Bill

That cannot be right! No way have you went through that much in the Summer months ffs. Some gas companies just that the Michael really. Defo seek advice from a 3rd party and challenge it.

Just as an aside when I moved I had a HUGE bill (was accurate) they British Gas let me pay my £400 bill in installments of £40 a month. I know NPower are better and let you make smaller payments for longer. HTH - also ask them to come and check you meter - a faulty meter can screw up your readings.

Omg... I can't even imagine how people can spend so much on their gas bills! I'm with EON and my gas bill is £35 a month. Just finished my first year with them, and i'm actually in credit by £50!!

We have a two-bedroomed place, with gas central heating and a gas hob. Our heating is on ALL the time in winter, and when the weather gets hotter I switch it on as necessary. We always have hot water and I use the hob at least twice a day.

Your bill for a quarter is more than double my yearly bill!!

Lucky you!! We only use the boiler for say, 3 showers a day, the washing machine and hot water - no heating on and we are nearly £50 a month going by the reading I just took from the meter!

Do they have no common sense? Surely they would realise that it a stupid amount and raise an investigation??

I haven't got gas so I don't know if if they have day and night readings but if it does is it possible they got the 2 mixed up? This happened with out electric 2 winters ago, Eon spotted it and the bill for the winter period was £120 in credit.

Thanks for your all your advice, I'll be checking out those links tomorrow, when OH can have Seren, and I can concentrate. Hope I can get it sorted!

I went thru this too a while back. All my bills were pretty reasonable and then I had one bill of over £500 for 3 months. Theres only me and my 3 year old living here. I was like:saywhat: I rang and got no-where, I wrote a letter and got no-where. They were adimant it was correct so I had no choice but to pay it. It made me soooo mad and I stopped putting my heating on altogether cuz I was so scared to get another bill like that. We sat freezing rather than have the heat on and yet we never had it on much to start with so god knows how we used so much gas.
Its such a rip off now. Stupid companies like british gas etc.. I know how ur feeling hun. :( :hugs:

That's gotta be wrong! When I was in a student house with 4 other people, I gave a reading in the winter (we did have the heating on a lot) and that was only £400!

Hope you managed to get things sorted today, it does seem like an awful lot of money especially for these months. Can't be correct

No Common sense what so ever - my dad once received a water bill for £64k!! and they told him, it was right (it wasnt!) and that it must have been a leak!

A few years ago my Dad received a bill from British Gas for £27,000 for a quarters gas for a tiny 2 bed house! It was of course wrong.

My grandparents (both in their 80's) got a bill for £900 for a quarter and so their monthly installments went up to something they couldn't afford. Thankfully it was wrong, as the man who came round to read the meter had swapped two numbers around, but they didn't get an apology or anything for the stress it caused!

Have you had any luck sorting this out?
