WHO told you he was obese? An idiot, or a pediatrician? I doubt any qualified doctor specializing in children would say that.

Just a regular doctor, I have never seen a pediatrician (don't think it's common to have one in New Zealand, unless your child needs to see one at a hospital for a major medical issue). Mostl health issues in children you go to the GP or a specialised nurse called a Plunket nurse (like a "health visitor" in the UK).

I think the doctor was just trying to scare me due to my own weight. Next time I'll send my OH instead - he's very slim and fit. The doc will probably fawn all over him! If we were all meant to turn out like our mothers, I'd weigh 80lbs right now.

I've got an appointment to have him re-checked with a Plunket nurse.

He doesn't look obese at all hun, they'll just be going that he's a low height percentile and high weight one. If he eats healthily and is active I wouldn't worry

Thank you! Plunekt nurse says he's fine, very healthy and not fat at all. She says he will likely be short and stocky, but not in a fat way, more just big boned and muscular. She can see from his previous weigh-ins that his weight and height leap up at totally different times but always catch up to eachother.

She came to visit me at home which was great, and we went outside and Thomas could outrun us both. She said he's got perfectly normal fitness.

Just for a laugh then, my poor obese toddler , I think he's so cute in the nude! And note, you can see ribs and spine

noah had almost these same proportions (he was an inch 2cm taller) at 18 mo and he was in the 50th percentile

Ignore it! Your son is a gorgeous healthy looking little boy and you seemed very tuned in to what he eats which is fantastic. You should be proud!

Im sorry but how a child can be obese is beyond me. Ok you get some lil chunky kids (tooo cute) but they are kids its puppy fat!

if they are alot older and its an issue then it can be dealt with but i dont think its right to label any young child like that.

Your son looks perfectly normal. each child is different their bodies are different these doctors really need a bloody clue.

My daughter had to go to hospital and they weighed her and said she is heavy for her age but because she is tall its not an issue, i told the nurse it wouldnt be an issue anyway she is a child and is perfectly healthy i dont need a scale to tell me that!

If he is obese, then Isaac is morbidly obese Isaac was thirteen kg when I last had him weighed a few weeks ago. He has a lot rounder tummy and fatter thighs than Thomas. He eats NO junk food, the poor child has a health freak for a mother lol and yet is more solid than other kids I know who eat junk food.

That is the silliest thing I have ever heard, he looks perfectly healthy to me hun. Dont give it a second thought. xx

I haven't read any of the replies but in my opinion your doctor is a f***wit! Your little boy looks perfectly healthy and as long as he's not having McDonalds, Coke and ice cream for breakfast, lunch and dinner I'm sure he'll continue to be so.

One of the doctors I saw a few months ago told me my little one was underweight and needed more protein. He didn't ask me for a detailed breakdown of what she was eating and didn't have any idea of her growth pattern nor did she look underweight in any way shape or form. Bizarre.
