Lo is a month now and has always been hungry wanting fed every 1.5 to 2 hours and taking the whole bottle no problem! Sometimes the 4oz wasn't enough but hv didn't want me putting the volume up anymore so switched to cow and gate hungry baby but so far she's still demanding every 1.5 to 2 hours! I'm getting worried since she's been gaining a bit too much weight than what the hv would like and don't know what to do. I'm beginning to wonder if she's not really that hungry and she's maybe got silent reflux or something but at the moment I've no option but to give her as she screams non stop until she gets herself into such a state that she can't catch her breath! Anyone had this before?

If she were drinking too much then shed be throwing it back up.

Imo you can't over feed a baby. River was a big baby, 7oz every 2 hours at one point abs she is perfectly healthy slim toddler now.

If a baby is hungry you feed it

I have exactly the same problem. My lil man can take 180 easy every 3ish hours. Sometimes he will have about 120 every two. I feed him when he demands and he never sicks anything back up.my husband is 6ft 4 and I'm 5ft 9 so he's going to be a tall boy. I won't take hm to be weighed with HV I weigh him because he is gaining loads and I know theyll tell me the same as what ur HV said. It's ridiculous how can u limit a month old baby's food when they're screaming! Mine doesn't take it if he doesn't want it so I know he's hungry. Ur lil one sounds perfectly healthy. Oh he's 4 weeks and 4 days old.

You cannot overfeed a baby, if baby is hungry they are hungry. If there eyes are greedier than their belly then they will def sick it up. Hungry baby milk takes a little while to 'get into their system', but it is quite normal for baby to feed every 2 hours - and when they go for a growth spurt even more. Is it worth upping the amount per bottle, and who knows maybe baby will actually go longer between feeds. My lo was taking 4-5oz every 2-3 hours at about 5 weeks old. He was a little gannet, but would only eat what he can manage. You have to trust that your baby does have a full button. I ff so I am not bringing in the bf debate - but if you were bf you would never even know how much baby was eating. I also think that it takes until baby is 2-3 months old, before they get into any sort of feeding schedule as such.

Hope it gets better soon, those first few weeks are worrying in every shape and form, but just trust your instincts.

xx

My LO wants food every 2 hours at the moment and sometimes less, its completely normal. They don't really get into a routine as such for a while yet :)

My LO was the same at that age and I really wanted to put her on hungry baby milk. The HV said that was only for babies that drain a 9oz bottle in one sitting and still want more.

It is very normal for a newborn to feed every 1-2 hours. Their tummys are soo tiny that they empty quickly and some just can't tollerate the hunger feeling. Also the first few months are the most rappid growing time so they need lots of food.

By about 9 weeks my LO went to the every 3/4 hour pattern but not at all before then. My LO also started sleeping through about 10 weeks too so I believe feeding will reguolate when you baby is ready.

That's just my opinion though - I know lots of people have had success with hungry baby milk!!

TBH I'd switch back to the 1st milk and ignore your HV, she's talking crap. Baby's tummys are tiny and feeding every two hours is normal.

When my LO was 1 month there were days when he was taking 5 or 6 oz every 2 hours. I just went with it and assumed it was a growth spurt... which it was. I think your HV is being over-cautious to be honest. I'd ditch the hungry baby milk, it's meant for delaying weaning in babies much older than 4 weeks. Babies need a LOT of food when they are having growth spurts!! If your LO is regularly downing 4 oz bottles then give her 5 oz bottles. You want to be offering her slightly more than she takes - that way you know she is satisfied. Trust your baby. As a pp said if you were overfeeding her she would be bringing a lot of milk back. If she's hungry, feed her. :flower:

I'm new here. Hello! I just wanted to add that yes, if they are still hungry..give them more food! Best to over-feed than under-feed. They have a lot of time to lose that extra little baby weight. Don't sweat it!

Jayden was the same, at one point he was on 80oz a day it was insane! He's pretty slim now though! As a baby he gained approx 1lb a week xx

I was giving my baby hungry baby milk but it didn't make the slightest bit of difference. She still drank every 2 hours and the exact same amount. I spoke to my health visitor who told me to switch back to normal as hungry baby milk isn't any more satisfying for the baby, she said it just had something in it that sat in there stomach to make them think they were full. My little girl is 8 weeks old now and still drinking every 2 hours but hopefully she will settle for a bit longer soon. I feed her when she wants and as much as she wants x

Agreed!

Gaining too much weight my left foot!

Eddy is drinking 7oz every 2.5-3 hours and is a little heffalump but do you know what, he's happy!

I don't personally like HB milk - it made Earl really gassy and I will be avoiding it until absolutely necessary (that's if it's needed at all). Earl was on 1st milk until a year when we switched to cows milk, don't see a problem with that (apart from the fact it's more expensive than the follow ons but that's a whole other debate!).
