Is this safe??? My friends doing it apparently, because the baby is demanding to be fed every 2 hours at night (I'm actually jealous, my LO wanted fed every 30-60 mins at night!
I don't know much about formulas but is it safe!? I can't find much info via google....and she's not the type to think about looking up info either...

I breastfeed so don't know much about formula but I wouldn't have thought 'hungry baby' milk is designed for week old babies. I think your friend needs to perservier (spelling!!) a bit first.

Pretty selfish, the only problem I can imagine would be the baby getting constipation. I put my LO on hungry baby at 3 weeks due to him taking silly amounts of first stage, he STILL fed every 3 hours like he did on the first milk, only he had less on each feed which was around the guide amount [instead of about triple it with lots of vomiting]. So it more than likely will not solve the problem, only cause her LO to take less [in my LO's case a lot less] so unless you have a valid reason I would advise against it. Or at least consult your health visitor like I did for advice and information before making that choice. My LO is lucky and has never had constipation but I've heard of some babies getting very bad constipation from it! Not ideal for such a tiny baby.

no its not a good idea, its designed to delay weaning so from around 17weeks old.

Its pretty bad, I bought hungry baby for Freya at 5 weeks, but gave her one bottle at night and she still woke up, shes just a greedy baby

It's not meant to make your LO go longer without a feed, it just tends to lower the amount your LO takes as it fills them better  they will more than likely still need feeding at their regular ques, William has only sttn at about 5months to 5 and a half, then teething got bad so he started waking for 2 bottles a night again and that's at 6 months he's not gone back to sttn yet :haha: the sleep gets better with age then worse again with teething etc

Eurgh, i think i've started a FB argument now. She says its suitable from birth so she can give it if she wants

We don't have that over here, but I've researched it so I know a bit about it. Seems very selfish to me, as babies that age she be eating frequently. She signed up for being a mother and now she is intentionally trying to stop her baby from getting the nutrition he needs by not feeding frequently enough?

We got advised by midwives and HVs to give Henry hungry baby from 2 weeks as he was big..... but me and OH think that's what caused a lot of his issues like colic and constipation and even reflux as it was too heavy for him to digest. Stephen we moved to hungry baby at 10 weeks (again under recommendations from a Dr and HV) because he was putting on so much weight and thought by using HB it would stop him consuming as much.... nah! To be honest with hte next baby if I FF.... i will start with stage 1!

Tricking a baby into feeling full is selfish. They are supposed to feed frequently! I had a permanently attached limpet to my breast for the first 2 months!

yup, know that feeling well!

Thanks for replies ladies, i just needed to know if i was justified in starting a bitchfest on her FB post :dohh:

I considered putting my LO on hungry baby milk but this is due to the amount she is drinking at each feed. After discussion with my health visitor, I'm holding off to make sure LO has stopped going through a growth spurt. She gained 11oz in a week! We are seeing how much she gains this week. I would never consider putting her on it to stretch feeds out. That is rather selfish of your friend. Hopefully the Facebook fight doesn't turn nasty. X

Hungry baby milk at 1 week old is very reckless.

It's not made for babies that small.

Your friend is really selfish.

It does say its suitable from birth, so I wouldn't think she'd be doing harm. Her reasoning my seem unjustified but it is suitable.

Cow an Gate do one from newborn but when I tried to swap LO on to it to see if she'd go longer on a night it constipated her and didn't make a difference so I went back to first milk and she's happier for it but I assume it's safe if they sell it from newborn

:flower:

It is from birth but I wouldn't use it unless advised or with valid reason really because of the constipation risks and the fact it is heavy on a LO's tummy, it tends to reduce the amount of milk a baby takes which could lead to them possibly not get enough imo.

It is suitable from birth so who are you to question what type of formula to give her baby? I think it is you that is out of order to be honest and I would be fuming if somebody decided to say all this about me and my baby on FB. I would personally be telling you to butt out!!

She is intentionally trying to stop her baby from eating as frequently as needed That is selfish and I have no problem saying so. I guess some people are just uneducated parents.
