Is it ok to give them the odd bottle of this or does it have to be a full transition from the first milk?

I use the normal blue Aptamil but she is easily guzzling 4oz now and normally cries for a feed about every 2-3 hours. I was wondering if I gave her some hungry milk, particularly at night, would it help her sleep for longer?

I have just bought a few ready made cartons to try but wanted to run it by people here first.

I don't know but will be interested to read replies to this thread.

I did have a friend who gave her baby hungry milk before bed, she said he slept longer before waking for a feed. But she only did this once he was about 6 weeks old.

I think you can only start giving them hungry milk after 6 weeks or so ive been told, something to do with digesting it. My LO is on about the same between 3-4oz every 2-3 hours sometimes he drinks 5oz! Midwife told me its normal and will all start to even out after a few weeks, Maybe check with your HV hun

There is no set age that you can give Hungry baby milk from, but its supposed to be used on babies closer to weaning (2-4 months) age who are drinking 8-9oz bottles very frequently. I would say 4oz every 2-3 hours was normal and as long as HV are not conderned he is putting on too much weight then I would just keep him on first milk. xxx

Feeding every 2-3 hours is normal, if she's draining 4 oz then offer 5. Hungry baby milk was designed to delay weaning for baby's in baby's who were wanting 8oz ever hour an s half.

Giving hungry baby milk when it's not actualy needed can be bad for your baby. Hungry baby milk contains no extra calories or vitamins, it's just harder to digest. So if your LO normally takes 4oz every 2.5 hours, over a 10 hour period it will drink 16 oz. If you swap to hungry baby and starts going 4 hours over 10 hours it's only going to get 8oz of milk. That's 8oz of energy and vitamins your baby will be missing out on which can have a negative affect of weight gain and the general health of your baby.

My LO is taking 4oz every 2-3 hours sometimes in increase it to 5oz.

Im using Aptamil and thought about hungry milk, but when i read the back of the box it had warnings on it about tooth decay etc so i give it a miss. Also i asked the MW and she said stay well clear.

I would say increase the amount rather than change the milk x

my son was on this but i had too get him off it because Health Visitor Said he can have tooth decay diabetes etc...

the health vistor said you can atlest put him on it around 10 weeks but im bot so sure :flower:

Feeding every 2-3 hrs is normal hungry milk is for older babies draining 8-9oz bottles to delay weaning.

Iv just got some for my Lo whos 9 weeks old, as he has realy bad reflux and was advised by hospital doctors to feed him less, well im sorry, but there is no way im going to let my LO scream becouse hes hungry so I opted for hungry milk, but only started giving him the one bottle at his 12am/1am feed and this as seen him sleep through the night 2 nights in a row.

I dont think id like to offer it at every feed as Lo is having 5oz every 2-3 hours so he must need the calories

Hey,

I felt same with my LO, I bought Hungry baby but researched prior to giving him it and also ask a friend who is a nurse and had a big baby!
Like the others have said, the advice is hungry baby is to delay weaning and to be used more so for babies you are finishing 8-9oz bottles at a time.
Your little one has 4oz every 2 hours, which is "normal" but like you I would like a little more time inbetween feeds, so I make 6oz bottles. Caleb takes from 4oz - 5.5oz each feed. I have also just stated using the size 2 teets for the bottles as he was taking ages to finish his bottles, falling asleep and waking hungry. So this makes him drink his 5 oz in about 25 mins so he is more satified and less frustrated. He was going 3.5 hours between feeds, but the past 5 days its every 2 hours. Its been very warm here and I have read a growth spurt can happen at this stage so im thinking opposed to Caleb ebing a "hungry baby" he is just wanting a bit more.

I would try 5oz and see how you get on. xxx

I do give LO a bottle of hungry milk at night (aptamil) but I have only started doing this when LO was nearly 5 months and started taking 9-11oz bottles beofe bed and then making herself sick because she had taking in too much. But if I gave less she was still actively searching for more. HV said Hungry Milk will sit heavier in her tum and make her fill fuller faster (not necessarily for longer though). It worked for us, she went back to taking 6-7 oz before bed which made her more comfortable. Now that she has dinner before bed though (LO is 6 1/2 month now) she still has a hungry milk bottle but often only take 3-5oz and still STTN.

LO does STTN but I don't think its because of hungry milk I think she just grew into it as she got older. I can't honestly say I noticed LO sleeping longer after Hungry Milk just taking less formula in - which was what we were trying to achieve.

My LO had to be increased to 5oz at that stage as she is a hungry baby!

I put my LO on Hungry Baby formula at 5 weeks after BF for 3 weeks and getting no sleep, and then FF with the 1st stage milk for 2 weeks and both of us getting zero sleep. It wasn't every 2-3 hours though - more like every 30-45 minutes between feeds.

Any HV that would have told me otherwise would have been invited to come to my house for a night and hear my tiny baby (he was 5lb 13oz born) scream his lungs out because he was starving. Since I switched over, both of us have been happier and his weight gain has been steady.

I'm not saying you should do this with your baby - every 2/3 hours sounds OK, and you could always up the amount - but it certainly worked for my little boy. I would do the same again.
