I'm having a hycosy in 3 weeks to check for the likelihood of fibroids.

Has anyone else here had one done? What was it like?

:flower:

I had a hysteroscopy, to remove scar tissue after I had fibroids removed in January, and I was put to sleep and once I woke up I was totally fine except a little bleeding. I've heard of women having it when they are awake and it was totally painless. Good luck!

Thanks hun, that's reassuring :)

What are they doing for you now, or are you going au naturale for a bit? xx

I had a hysteroscopy and lap and dye back in August. They put me to sleep, woke up with the worst period pains ever, but the pain killers soon got rid of that. They didn't find anything wrong so my recovery was pretty quick. Just felt a bit delicate for a few days. Almost like I'd overdone it in the gym so just felt a bit delicate when getting up. For me, it was the general anaesthetic that knocked me for six. Didn't suffer from any sickness or anything but was really, really tired for 2-3 days after. That surprised me as I've been under anaesthetic a few times and been fine the day after. Good luck. Hope it goes well x

Hi dan-o, I'm having my HyCoSy this Thursday. I've been told it's not too bad but I'm still not looking forward to it!

I'll give you some honest feedback once I've had it! :flower:

Thanks leila! Good luck hun! xxxx

Hi Dan-o

Is it a Hycosy or a Hysteroscopy your having? The Hycosy is the HSG to check if tubes blocked but the Hysterscopy is to check inside uterus?

If the clomid doesnt work for me (on 3rd cycle of 6 so far and not even a sniff of a BFP) then I am due to have a Hysteroscopy to check if I have fibroids in Uterus cos I get pre AF spotting for 5-6 days for the past 6 or more years.

I am worried about it too so would love some feedback from people if they have had one.

Good luck with yours and let us know how you get on.

Hi Reba. It's a hycosy first, to check my lining for the abnormalities they thought they saw on a u/s.

If clear then we will go back to TTC with clomid.

If not then it's a hysteroscopy or a laparoscopy, depending on what shows up & where :flower:

I hope you get good news. Its scary to think you might have fibroids (im nervous at the thought of it myself).

I have to wait for an appointment with FS before I can get my hysteroscopy arranged and its a 20 week waiting list - one week down 19 to go......

I had the HSG and it was clear so now Im on cloimd (3rd month).

If it's the hystersropy, I'm having it on Friday!!! That a a lap.

I was put on clomid and had 4 good follicals but with the DH SA the ob decided to refer us to a FS an he said that before we go waist time with clomid or other stuff we should first find out that the tubes were good and clear so I have an HSG test about 2 weeks ago (which I'm glad he did seeing that my insurances doesn't cover & it's close to $300 for clomid, ultrasound & trigger shot) come to find they are blocked so I'm scheduled now for the lap&hyster surgery on Friday. I'm super happy with our FS cause he's on it!!!! And when I hear people having to wait months for it I think I would go crazy so I'm sooo thankful for him!!!! I'm a little nervous but hope everthing goes well. I'll keep you posted and let you know if there is anything to worry about.

If it's the HSG test that was fine nothing to really worry about I didn't even take the pain killers they recomend :) good luck!!

Hi Dan-O,

I had a HyCoSy at the end of last month. It was fine. It is very similar to a HSG except they use ultrasound to look at your uterus/ovaries instead of x-ray. They had a bit of trouble getting the tube into my cervix, which was uncomfortable rather than painful. I had a few mild cramps when the dye ran through, but it was all very cope-able with.

Nearly forgot, have you been prescribed any painkillers and or antibiotics. I was, but know that it varies from place to place. If not then take an ibuprofen before hand.

Best of luck!

Thanks hun, that's reassuring :flower:

They said to take painkillers, if I want, but I think I will take them with me to take afterwards :)

I'll ask about the a/b's xx

I had a hycosy a few months ago and mine wasnt very pleasant to be honest..but from what ive read on here they are generally not too bad, just a bit uncomfy.
Id strongly advise tho to take painkillers beforehand cos it not alf helps. i felt ok afterwards, jsut a bit of AF type cramping

Hi, I'm just back from my HyCoSy. They didn't say anything about taking painkillers but I might pop a couple of paracetamol now as I'm a bit uncomfortable and I'm performing in a play tonight so I don't want to be distracted!

It went fine today. The doctor was lovely and friendly and really put me at my ease. I spent pretty much the whole procedure chatting with the nurse about Strictly Come Dancing and Radley handbags! :dohh:

It was a little uncomfortable and when they pushed the fluid through it was crampy and I felt a stinging sensation. To be honest it was like an extended and slightly more involved smear test. As I say, I'm a little uncomfortable now. I took arnica for a week before today and will keep taking it for a bit afterwards in case there's any bruising.

I came out of there with the best results I could have hoped for - everything looks fine and my ovarian cysts seem to have improved so yay! We're being left for 3 months to see how we get on (although DH is working away most of the time) and we're going back in Jan to discuss our options if we've still not conceived. The doc is happy to refer us on the basis of DH's SA results which were a little shakey.

Good luck to all you ladies with your various upcoming procedures! :hugs:

can i ask did they prescribe you with antibiotics afterwards ive read that they should to prevent any kind of infection! i had my HYCOSY done on the 18th October it was really painfull for me i thought i was gonna pass out at one point! since the procedure i have picked up a pelvic infection im on day 3 today of antibiotics which is only a 5 day course and it doesn't seem to be getting any better i'm concerned that although all my test results are fine and i have no problems at all in terms of conceiving the infection is gonna cause future problems in my pelvic area.. were going for IUI soon im just hopeing this doesn't set us back.

Hi Ladies,

I had a hycosy before my IUI procedure.

It starts off like a smear test, I was lucky enough to have mine done in the middle of my cycle around the time of ovulation so my cervix was open and in the right place - This meant that I didn't have a clap put on my cervix, which I was told before hand could be quite painful for a minute or two. They then pushed the cathetar through which I didn't feel at all. It's when they put the dye through that you may experience some af style cramps. Some people don't feel a thing though, but I had some bad cramping which was manageable whilst thinking about why I was there having it done and thinking that it will all lead to a :baby:!

It was over quite quickly, I did take some painkillers before the appointment, and after the procedure I laid down on the bed for about 15 mins after and I felt fine by the time I left the hospital.

Hope you don't need the scan though, and this cycle will be the one for you!

Good Luck :hugs: xxxxxx
