Anyone else hoping for a water birth, and/or using hypnobirthing? I have a self hypnosis cd which I have been playing - it isn't really hypnosis, it's more relaxation tbh. I am starting hypnobirthing classes later in the month and then daisy birthing classes a bit later to see what works for me.

So far with the self hypnosis cd I have noticed that she is really active when I'm listening, as in she kicks really hard and my whole belly moves. My bump was really obviously smaller afterwards today as though she was laying flat back by the end!

I'm really nervous about birth so I'm hoping this helps!

I would love to have a similar birth. Although I haven't actually put any concrete plans together yet. I would definitely like a water birth and I'm really interested in the hypnobirthing too but not sure whether to pay out all that money to attend classes. I will definitely be using a cd during birth of lots of relaxing music.

Me! Hypno home warerbirth all the way!!!

It is my only focus. Going to hospital isnt really an option for me
as there will be too much adrenaline in my body as i get very shaky near hospitals, also i have pretty serious reactions to anaesthetic so if i am nowhere near a hospital, i am less able to have uneccessary interventions which may use anasthetic.

Have my course next week so i am really looking forward to it. I have my pools on standby (depends which one fits whatever room we choose, the other is earmarked for a paddling pool, lol!)
Need to buy hose and work out best way of filling it.

Wont be calling mw until very late in labour too so i can have max time on my own to get in the zone before anyone disturbs my thoughts. (And also to avoid them being insistant i go to hospital) I love hypnosis and meditation so i cannot wait!!!

I labored in the tub with my first baby and used a lot of breathing and visualization techniques to get through the pain. I loved the tub, its took all the pressure off my pelvis and I think it helped me relax and dilate much quicker. When it came time to push I had to get out because I found it a bit awkward and hot, but I'm going to try again this time in the kneeling position with my upper body resting on the side of the tub. Just make sure the hospital or birthing center or whatnot is supportive of your goals. I'm pretty lucky actually the local hospital has a nice birthing center separate from the hospital and they're very holistic. They knew my goal and never offered me drugs at any point in the process. The pain will be so bad at times that you will eventually be very tempted, so it's important to surround yourself by people who're going to help you complete your goal. If there're complications you wont have much choice in the matter, but some places just want to get their beds empty and will pump you full of drugs just to hurry things along and make your labor easier for them to control. It's going to be the most intense pain you've ever been through but its worth it, your body recovers so much quicker when it goes through the process naturally and will cope better during subsequent labors.

I would love a water birth!! My SIL went hypnobirthing lessons and she had a water birth, it was her first baby and she had noain relief at all and she was fine!! I had gas and air with my 3 babies and im hoping this time i can try with nothing, i have always wanted a water birth but was always put as high risk so i couldn't! This time though im not put as high risk so i can only hope the pool isnt in use when i go into labour lol but my SIL swore by hypnobirthing

Good to know I am not alone!

So far I don't know how on board I am with hypnobirthing. I want it to work, but I am not sure that it will work for me if that makes sense? I actually find the cd really cringe at times - visualising "golden light" isn't really my thing but hopefully at the actual classes I will get some visualisations that actually work for me! My partner tried the techniques from the cd on me last night and both of us ended up in hysterical laughter, he sounded so strange saying it! Didn't help that he tried to copy the voice ...!

With regards to water birth, there are no birthing centres near me, so I will be going to the local hospital. They have 2 rooms with birthing pools available so apparently I have a good chance in terms of numbers. Two friends of mines are midwives and I would love one of them to deliver with me! The hospital is fairly new but not too new (the local new hospital is being slated SO much in the media - mines opened in 2001) - it is quite good as there are three "normal" labour wards, your ward allocation depends on geographical area and mines falls under one of the wards with a birthing pool. There is a fourth ward which is for a more medical approach to childbirth. There are no seperate wards for assessing labour, labour and after birth so you stay in the same ward throughout, which I quite like!

I find being in water hugely relaxing, a long bath is my ultimate way to unwind and I always have a long bath for things like period pain. I am going to use a tens machine at home and transfer to the pool when I get to hospital (hopefully!) and I really want to stay in for the actual birth, but I am realistic about needing gas and air. I'm just hopeful I don't need an epidural, although apparently my hospital do "walking epidurals" so you can still more around and give birth on all fours. We will see ...
