my doctor does routine bloodwork but not until 16 weeks, i got everything tested and all was normal except for my tsh levels. they were at 8.7 and she is next going to test my free t3 and t4 levels. i've read so much online about hypothyroidism being bad during pregnancy and i feel i'm really far along to just be catching this now. I have absolutely no symptoms, never feel overly tired, the entire pregnancy has been absolutely great and now i constantly worry. My ultrasound is tomorrow and instead of looking forward to finding out the gender and finally seeing my baby I'm constantly worried about something being found wrong. I haven't started any medication or anything but the next blood tests are to be done right after my ultrasound.

Hey honey. Try not to worry tho I know it's hard. Mine was about the same til 16 weeks as my gp said it was ok. My obs consultant said it was too high and increased my meds but said it was not high enough to cause problems. They said it needs to be lots higher and untreated to cause probs. You will need more thyroxine tho as pregnancy goes on but that's normal. I am now on 250 mcg a day!!!!
Good luck enjoy the scan I'm sure it'll be fine x

Apparently there are other hormones that can increase the tsh during pregnancy too - so they usually also watch your T4 and if that is low then you will also go on thyroid hormone unless the TSH goes much too high (mine (TSH) went up to 13.4 last pregnancy and it is still running a bit high this pregnancy even despite being on thyroid hormone at a larger dose then normal) TSH influences T4 and it is the T4 that affects baby so if your T4 is fine then your baby will be ok too - you are just at higher risk of having a lowered T4 in the end.

well the ultrasound went perfectly, everything looks great, i feel much less nervous now and i'm awaiting the results of my free t4 tests. though i'm much less nervous now, everyone here and now my doctor too, has been really reassuring. and we just found out i'ts a BOY!!
