Hi ladies, its been a while since i last posted but it was about this same issue and im just wondering if anyone can help or advise.
On January 23rd my then 3 month old girl was given a course of Erythromycin for suspected whooping cough (it was far too late anyway and now wish I hadn't bothered) and ever since this course of antibiotics she hasn't been able to drink cow and gate milk. She gets really bad nappy rash and poo's in every single nappy. The poo smells horrible and is slimy. After suffering for some time and several GP appointments later a GP in passing recommended trying lactose free milk for a couple of weeks. I put her on it for 9 days in total and after the first couple of days she was pooing once a day and it was totally normal and the nappy rash cleared up. After 3 days back on the cow and gate the slimy poo started again and within the day her skin started being burned (thats what the nappy rash was like, as if her skin was being burned off) I rung the GP who suggested going back on the LF and agreed to do a prescription for 2 weeks supply. She did a 15 day course this time and was totally fine again after 3 days on the LF. Back on cow and gate the slimy poo and burning bum started again so they suggested a longer time on it so i got her another 2 week supply. She has now been back on it for 16 days and on Sunday I introduced a bottle of cow and gate a day to see if re-introducing the normal milk slowly would help. She is also being weaned aswell and is now on 3 meals a day. All was going fine so yesterday I upped her cow and gate bottles to 2 a day from the 1, she only has 4 bottles a day. Unfortunately today she has poo'd twice, the first was fine but the second one later in the day contained slime and had the same foul smell... so it seems that the cow and gate is causing the reaction again...
Every time I take her back to the GP they say oh it should be sorted now, or oh we can't really do anything else, leave her on LF another 2 weeks... Thats all fine but at £5.99 a tin, a tin lasting 3 days its a dear do, I don't begrudge it if it helps my baby but this is stupid, she shouldnt have even been given the antibiotics.
Does anyone have any idea how i can help get her over this and get her back on normal milk again? Im at a loss and can just imagine what the GP's will say if i speak to them again...
Anyone???
Thanks in advance...
