Well I went today for my second NHS appointment .. had my 1st back in Jan this year ... It has left me very upset and bewildered .... I was told at the first appointment to lose weight .. which I have tried to do without much success, though I have shifted some, but not enough to bring me under the bmi 30 .. so when I went back this time they have discharged me from the clinic .. I have pcos and Im now very distraught ...........

They wont give me metformin or even send me for a hsg .... I was just told to lose weight .... told yet again !!! He wont give me metformin even though it is for people with insulin issues !!!! .. I was speechless !!!

The consultant told me I have been dealt a bad hand and been screwed over by my genes ... and well, I will just have to get on with it .... I have never felt so worthless in my life ... I have no idea what I am meant to do now ....

have you thought of switching clinics, i know sometimes its not convient and your afraid u might be told the same thing again but sometimes, drs beliefs are different, and sometimes some drs are more helpful then others. dont give up i would get a second opinion!

The same thing happened to me, so I lost 5 stone, went back to my gp, got referred again and now waiting for consultation. It's heart breaking but use that to push yourself forward to lose weight. I have PCOS and its been hard but I want a child that much I'd do anything x

please look into a new clinic thats ridiculous for them to be so brass and insensitive! If you've been dealt a bad hand its their job to assist you in helping you improve your fertility hence them being a fertility clinic! thats insane it really is! I'm sorry you've had to go through this.

I'm so sorry for your bad news and that they came across as so insensitive. :( It's difficult in the UK as we can't just change clinics or even get 'second opinions' - we just have to accept what we are told unless we pay a fortune and go private. I would make an appointment with your GP ASAP and ask for their support in losing weight. It's not fair that you are just dumped by the system!

All the very best of luck with your TTC journey x

I would go to another doctor. My doctor suggestedwe take walks more and such..but hes still helping me...I'm over weight...ive been going to a gym and tanning to help me feel better about myself so I can hopefully be healthier and get my bfp sooner...but losing weight is easier said than done!! :( I would see a different doctor. That way you can do other tests and get some more help and maybe more meds to help :) my old ob told me " oh its your thyroid...oh its your thyroid" that was their excuse on why I wasn't getting my af...and etc... :( I went to another ob and they started me on clomid and had me do more tests and that's where I was told about my fertility specialist I go to now. Sometimes doctors aren't very nice...good luck Hun!!! Hope you get some answers :)

I'd go back to your GP and ask for a referral to an endocrinologist. They're specialists in hormonal disorders which is what PCOS is and they were happy to prescribe me metformin (after tests etc). I agree with a previous poster about asking for help loosing weight. It took me 3 years of appointments and tests at the FC to start to lose the weight I needed to, to get treatment. They never discharged me, they have a dietician who comes to their clinic who I saw and eventually my FS suggested Lighter Life and that's what worked.

Are there any other clinics near to you? I know that because we're in between two cities (Aberdeen and Dundee) we were given the choice of where we wanted to be referred to. I chose Aberdeen simply because I work there so it's easier. Definitely worth asking about since you've not had any luck there.

Thank you ladies for your support ..

I had been going to slimming world but I didnt really get any help there as to what to eat for insulin resistance, so I was following their diet plan .. which if Im honest it is the sort of diet I follow anyway .. I dont binge eat nor am I an emotional eater ... as a child I was very skinny (my Mum forced me to eat as she thought I wasnt getting enough nutrition !!), I only started to put on weight as I reach puberty and I dont live on junk food .. my partner eats the same diet as me and he is not over weight !! I cook fresh food with lots of vegetables with wholemeal rice, pasta etc and its low in fat ... I am sooo frustrated !!!!!!! .. I have asked to be referred to a dietitian .... I just want a list of foods to avoid with IR ... and a list of things that are good to eat with the condition ... I have to eat, I cant live by sucking on lettuce !!!!!!!!!!

As for getting another clinic .. there is only one in Northern Ireland .. it operates out of 2 locations but they are run by the same consultants ...

I feel like I am being held hostage by my own body .. I am a very determined person but I just feel beat this time... I feel like my body hates me and is having one almighty laugh at me ... to listen to the drs you would think that I choose to look like this .... my heart is broken

A low GI diet is the best for IR. It stops the big spikes and crashes in you blood sugar and keeps you on an even keel.
