Oh guys I really can't do this again. My first son really struggled to gain weight and now my second seems to be going the same way. I was harassed for months by health visitors and they made me so depressed. No matter how many doctors told me my son was fine the health visitors wouldn't let it go and I can't go through that again.

Birth - 3860g
Day 5 - 3660g
Day 10 - 3780g
Day 12 - 3780g
Day 15 - 3800g

The midwife says he's fine. He's pooping all the time and it's just how it should be. He's peeing constantly. He is alert. His jaundice levels were low and it left quickly. Position and attachment is perfect.

Why can't he just be gaining weight properly? :(

That seems fine to me. My DD is a slow gainer and her Dr is happy as long as she gains. You are doing well.

All babies are different and go through growth spurts at different times. The graphs are just a guide, not the be all and end all. They are just averages. If all the other indicators are good for health (which they are) then just go with the flow. Enjoy your babe.

It took my son 3 weeks to get back to his birth weight. He only lost 120g but it took three weeks to gain that 120g back! He's a very slow gainer, about 90g a week. But he has lots of wet & dirty nappies and he's alert & content so I try not to worry.

My sisters baby is 6 weeks younger and weighs 1lb more than my son. She was born 7 11 and my son was 9 3, however she is formula fed. It makes me worry that my son is too small when I see them together but deep down I know every baby is different and grows at his/her own rate xxxxx

My LO is 16 weeks and weighed 16.5. People keep telling me he is massive and I worry that he is overweight. Apparently not but I know what you mean about health visitors and their comments. It gives you a complex!!!
Don't worry. If LO feeds on demand and the nappies are regular you have a happy baby. You will know if he is not happy.

Don't let doubt into your head. Your baby is brand new hun and you know the ropes of BF like an old pro by now, and that every baby gains differently. It's going to be OK :)

All babies lose a little weight at first, I don't see anything wrong with your baby's weight. As long as he is peeing and pooing alright I don't see anything wrong.

Don't worry, the midwife has agreed he's fine so she's on your side. If you don't like what the HV say, don't speak to them! You know best. He is gaining, peeing and pooing and his jaundice has gone, he sounds great!
I have a slow gainer too, both my boys creep along the 9th centile.

Your son's gain weight sounds good, don't worry.
That being said, I know it isn't easy not worrying when someone is telling us there is something wrong with our baby, even when we know it's not true.
I'm going through something similar. Arthur is literally off the chart and the pediatricians associated to the hospital where I gave birth are trying to make me feel bad about it. Sometimes they succeed. Then I go get a second opinion with a doctor specialised in breastfed babies, and everytime she tells me there is nothing wrong. My midwife tells me the same thing.
I think some health professionals are just too used to seeing formula fed babies that they forget breastfed babies don't follow the same weight gain patterns.

My GP and the paediatrician always agree that they're just fine. It's the health visitors (nurses) that disagree. The doctors are higher up though so I think I just need to ignore the health visitors. I will update Monday after our next weigh in. I want to say he feels heavier but I don't want to get my hopes up xxx

I understand completely where you're coming from, I had the exact same problem with DD2. She was a very slow gainer but peeing and pooping, meeting all her milestones and happy. My public health nurse could just not let it go though. My GP said that she was fine but did a bit of testing just in case, everything came back clear and she said she was probably just going to be a tiny baby. The public health nurse couldn't leave it at that and called my GP pressuring her into referring me to a pediatrician who seemed even less concerned than my GP did (he was very laid back and seemed suprised I was even referred to him). To please this nurse I tried topping her up with expressed milk and formula none of which she would touch and even now since being on solids and eating enough for 3 babies she's still a very small baby. My advice is ignore it completely if your doctors are saying your baby is healthy, the stress is definitely not worth it.

That weight gain sounds perfectly normal to me, bf babies generally regain their birth weight by 2-3 weeks :)

I return with good news! After last week's 20g gain this week he gained 120g! He is past his birth weight now :)
