I have no idea what to do anymore :hissy: LeeAnne hasn't slept since yesterday evening at 7pm and it's now 1:30pm..she will fall asleep for about 10 minutes and then wakes herself up! She is constantly flailing her arms, we have tried swaddling her with them in but she works her way out of it. She has been screaming bloody murder all day! I've fed her, burped her, changed her and everything nothing is calming her down!
The only way she would stay remotly asleep last night was if I was holding her, I got maybe 15 minutes of sleep! How am I supposed to function on this little sleep!!! :hissy: I'm a wreck!

sorry hun i ant got any adcvice apart from it does get better and also to send big  x

Renah went 25 hours when she was that age, only ONCE though thank god. Have you tried giving her a bath and maybe a baby massage? Umm...rock her in a completely dark room, do you have anything soft and musical you can play?

She could be going through a growth spurt, some babies get soooo fussy in a growth spurt. I dunno what else to tell you.

Where is your OH? Can't he take care of her for you to sleep? What about some family members?

wait - try putting her in a colic hold for a while

If she'll settle with you holding her, can you take her to bed with you so you can get some sleep?

Harry has been having a few sessions like this lately. What's helped us is keeping his nursery really really dark and settling him in there. Harry hasn't been a baby to cry for no reason, and so we came to the conclusion that he's just really tired but is fighting his sleep and all the burping, jiggling around, picking up, putting down etc etc just makes things worse.

We put him in his basket in his cool nursery with a light blanket and stand outside the room - within a minute he's calmed down considerably. If he then needs anything, we'll go in keeping the room dark (e.g. making sure the landing light is off before opening the door etc), do only what needs doing (only changing him if he really needs to be changed), not talking to him unless he starts getting upset again in which case I usually just say "shhh, it's ok" very quietly, and then we leave him again.

Whilst I don't really agree with leaving a baby crying, I honestly think that sometimes they are just SO tired and trying to console them just keeps them awake. It might not be the answer for your baby, but it's something to maybe try?

If you want her to sleep in ehr own crib, I personally wouldnt make it a habit of sleeping with her in your bed. Thats your choice though... They first few weeks of a babies life is rough, but getting a good routine during this time is very beneficial...

At around 10pm or so, like the others have said, rock her and feed her etc until she is asleep. Make it a habit of takign her and rocking her around the same time every night. Dont change her diaper after you get her to sleep until the morning. When she wakes to be fed, make sure you keep it dark.

Like rae suggested you can try some colic positions too... Another one is to lay her across your knees belly down and rub her back.

This is the first time I have slept on the couch with her since she has been born. We have a basinette we have beside the bed just because it has been easier having her beside me with my section recovery for feeding and whatnot...also as silly as it sounds because shes just sooooo tiny her crib is SO huge and I feel uncomfortable putting her in something so big right yet

My OH took her for 4 hours this morning but she was just screaming and fussing and even tho I was downstairs I could still hear everything going on upstairs and of course when she screams and cries I can't sleep lol

We had Harry in his basinette by the side of our bed initially, but he's quite a noisy sleeper and with every single noise I was on edge waiting for him to start crying and I hardly slept - when I did sleep, it was very lightly. After 2 weeks of this we put him in his nursery - he still sleeps in his basinette which we put inside the cot and we put the baby monitor on. Now he can make all the noises he wants, but we only wake up when he actually cries for feeding/changing which is much better for us, and probably for him too as we're not disturbing him apart from when he needs something. We also noticed that Harry woke up a lot less often too - I think we were disturbing him and waking him up too.

How about you or your OH to take her out for a walk in the buggy? The fresh air will do you all good and hopefully send her off to sleep for a little while. A lot of older people have suggested to me that a bit of fresh air helps a younger baby to sleep well.

Or a ride in the car? On a couple of nights where Brooke was overtired and wouldnt sleep we took her for a ride in the car to get her off, works a treat.

I hope you find something to give you both some peace :hugs:

Heres my long answer that I should have put before... but I was busy. And this is only what I did, you certainly need to do what you are comfortable with.

When I initially got home, for the first week I slept on the couch with Jasmine because I couldnt go up and down the staires because of my bp...

After about a week we moved her into her crib. I just decided not to bother with the bassinet. She was perfect in her crib. I had wedges which kept her snug and in one place. She didnt like her arms swaddled, so she just had her legs wrapped and that is how she slept.

She has always been very good at sleeping. And other then the odd cranky night because of getting her shots, or teething, she has always slept until around 7am.

I feel that since she is accustomed to her crib and has been in it, and has a stable routine, that this has contributed to how easy going about bedtime and sleeping she is. Her crib is perfectly safe for her, especially when a baby is tiny and cant roll or move yet, it is very safe.

But again, this is just MY opinion. It certainly isnt what you need to do. There are lots of babies who start out in a bassinet or co-sleeping who have no probs.

  I don't even want to IMAGINE how cold it is where Emily is right now! I doubt a walk is in the cards hah.

Ummm what about taking her for a ride in the car??

ya the car ride is good! you can buy baby einstein cds that have lullaby type classical.... Jasmine loves them all.

Thanks.

Has she possibly got reflux or colic? Niamh would scream constantly after a feed & she has reflux.

LOL well today was actually somewhat nice out! It was only -5 out! We went for a little walk and then walked around the mall and she slept the whole time! She is sleeping again right now so hopefully she will be okay tonight! We are going to attempt to put her in the crib if I can get over my fears of something happening to her in there. So stupid of me to be so scared of putting her in the crib lol

Thanks.

I don't think she is colicy and as for reflux I'm not really sure TBH. She spits up her food once in awhile but I think it's more because she has over ate. She usually screams because she is still hungry but if I don`t stop and take the bottle away there are times that she will eat 8oz and thats when she throws it all up.

Its not stupid to be scared!!! Its totally normal, I have my baby monitor cranked to loud I can hear her breathing haha.

I just try to remind myself that I cant be overly freaky and cautious. She is in a safe place, she cant get out, she has proper bedding.

Seriously, She has been sleeping through the night since she was almost 2 months old... And it took me until just recently to be able to sleep at night without waking up, I used to go and check on her haha...

Any time I have brought her in at night (if the power goes off etc) my sleep is totally worse haha. Im so afraid im going to push her out or crush her.

I love having snuggles in bed in the morning though.

Well I think that was part of the problem last night is that I had a TERRIBLE sleep because I was afraid I was going to crush her or push her off the couch because we have such a narrow couch there isn't much room!
I think tonight we are going to try to put her in the crib... BUT...we are going to leave her in the basinette and put that in the crib..one step at a time I guess..maybe if that goes well tonight then tomorrow night I will attempt just having her in there!
And then there is the question of bumper pads..we have one but I have no idea if they are safe to use with an infant in the crib..its such a contraversial issue..shes so tiny that I'm afraid she would slip or get caught between the bars but yet I'm afraid she will suffocate if she wriggles herself around (as she does in the basinette, we put her at the bottom of it and within a few hours shes at the very top with her face against the side!!

I think I might try this tonight and see if that works! That's the problem right now is that LeeAnne makes so many noises in her sleep that I wake up to every little one and when shes not making noises im checking on her to make sure she's still breathing! It's a never ending cycle! I think having her in the seperate room and turning the monitor on would at least give me a few hours of sleep without constantly worrying!
No one warned me that you become such a worrywart when becoming a first time mom LOL I have NEVER worried this much in my entire life lol
