my baby had a check up today and she's weighing in at 6900g (sorry don't know what that is in pounds). the doctor asked me how often she has a bottle / it can be anywhere between 2 hours and 4, sometimes even more than that.

she has her last bottle at 10pm and sleeps through right til 6, sometimes 7. she has roughly 5 bottles a day, 180ml each.

the doctor said not to feed her every 2 hours  how can I ignore my baby for a potential 2 hours if she's screaming her head off?

is it me or is this just a bit of crap advice?

I think what you're doing is fine! You can't stop a baby from being hungry. I certainly don't wait hours between eating if I'm starving. Feeding on demand at 3 months old is perfectly normal. Your baby sounds happy and healthy, no need to change that!

It's crap advice. What matters is how much formula your LO has on average.

5 bottles a day at 3 months sounds spot on to me. If a baby sleeps through the night how are they supposed to get all the milk they need if they dont feed more often during the day? I think your doc gave bad advise. xx

I'd say continue what your doing!
Guidelines say a baby needs 150-200mls of formula per kilogram.
If your baby is 6.9kg then she needs between 1035mls and 1380mls to satisfy her hunger.
Having 5 bottles of 180mls in 24hours is only 900mls so i would definately continue what your doing and feeding her every 2 or 4hours if that's what she wants :) x

I'd ignore it as well and keep doing what you're doing!

Mine is 4 months old and still has 6 bottles a day!

Thought so.

I asked my midwife for a second opinion and she said it would be stupid to leave her crying if she's hungry. It's not as if she's way over, she's on the 90th percentile I think.

It's 15lbs 2 ozs hun :)

It's rubbish advice. Oliver is 3 months and he has 6 bottles a day. Feed on demand like you are doing hun x

That IS crap advice!! If you let your LO cry for so long they'll get horrible gas and be even more miserable from swallowing too much air. Not to mention they'll start gulping down the food when you do feed which may cause choking and may even eat in excesse out of fear of being hungry. Feed on demand and keep your LO happy :)
