My baby is 16days old and I think i've done something terrible :nope: Its been a really hot day and we have been out and about, so we noticed that his dip in his head was lower then normal and he was crying despite the fact it wasn't time to feed him, so i gave him an ounce of water in case he was dehydrated, and now i read that i could have harm my baby - is this right?

No hun, it won't harm. U can give ur LO some water if it's hot, or ur LO is constipated. 1 oz wont do any harm xx

no hunny your fine MW told me to give baba water to check that she didnt have thrush so its ok xx

Do you have your LO on a clock-based feeding schedule? If so, I would strongly recommend you explore on-demand feeding. I know it's more work when bottle feeding, but newborns often cluster feed at certain times and baby may want to (need to) feed a couple of times in the same hour.

No he isn't on a clock based schedule, we kinda assume with him that he will feed every 3hrs, but sometimes less and sometimes more. He is on 4oz of Apitmal at every feed, but we have also started giving him Infancol as he has a lot of wind, which is probably not comfortable for him

It won't do any harm, you are allowed to give them a bit if dehydrated/constipated

Hi Hun

You won't have done him any harm at all, my HV told me to give my LO cool boiled water when he was about that age because of the heat! :flower:

I used to give my son water every day. Not a lot, but like an oz or two in between feeds. I made sure it was clean, boiled water etc... but he loved it and still to this day, prefers water over most drinks. He was FF by the way. Breastfed babies shouldn't really be given water as they get all their hydration from breastmilk and it adjusts to their needs etc... I don't see any harm in giving your LO water :)

Thank you for your replies :flower: I will try and relax more

1oz wouldn't be a problem at all.

My HV advised it from birth as my LO had a white build up on her tongue that the HV said could be thrush but if it wasn't thrush then the water would make it go away.

Aslong as it's been boiled & cooled then it's fine :hugs:

I also used to give Phoebe an oz of water everyday on advice from my HV.

yeah its no problem at all. I was told to give it to my LO since he was about 2 weeks.....cool bolied, an oz a day. He was constipated and it sure helps!!
