I had a membrane strip Wednesday morning, started contracting later that night 3-5 minutes apart...but then they went away :( The next morning they started back up so I called my doctor and he said to go to the hospital just to have them monitored, though don't get my hopes up because they'll probably just send me home...turns out the hospital wanted to keep me after monitoring them for a few hours :)

By 4pm I was 4cm dilated, by 9pm I was a whopping...5. However, after she checked me at 9pm I started having much, much stronger contractions and by 11pm I was 7cm. By that point I was begging for an epidural, which took some maneuvering to get in but WOW, it made a WORLD of a difference! The doctor told me the epidural they administer at this hospital is weaker than most so just anticipate it taking the edge off...but it totally numbed me of ALL contractions :happydance: She said she's never seen that happen before! I'm glad though because I needed a break!! Plus, my contractions were apparently 2-5 minutes apart throughout the entire night, some lasting 4 minutes!! Eek!

By 7am I was 10cm dilated and my water finally broke...then all hell broke lose :( They cut my epidural down by 50% and I was in SO...MUCH...PAIN! I was having INTENSE back labor that was radiating up my spine to my neck and down my legs to my heels. It felt like someone was ripping at my sciatic nerve :'( Every position recommended for back labor was making it so much worse and I was making some horrendous faces - I'm sure the doctors thought I needed to be exorcised or something.. She was "really close!!!" to coming out so I started pushing...but the back pain was too much. I was pushing so hard I thought my intestines were gonna pop out of me...and 2.5 hours later of pushing....she hadn't moved!!! She was still "really close!" The doctor mentioned the dreaded vacuum which I swore I'd never consider because the pictures of the poor babies heads in the pregnancy books made me sad...but after 2.5 hours I was DEMAAAANDING the doctor get the vacuum NOWWWW!!! Wow...I never thought I could be so aggressive and desperate - I'm usually a very mellow, go-with-the-flow person. They got the vacuum attached to her had and within the next 2 contractions her head was out. That's when I screamed bloody murder at the doctor to "GET HER OUT OF ME NOW!!!!" And she was entirely out by the 3rd contraction. They placed her on my chest and I sat there for the next 15 minutes in utter shock, shaking all over, and getting stitched up for a pretty gnarly tear I endured during the process.

Lillian Paige was born at 10:19am, May 11, weighing 6 lbs. 8oz and 18.5 inches long, with a head full of golden ash blonde hair :cloud9:

Congrats! Hope you heal well from the scary pushing, ouch!

Oooooh I feel your pain!! Well done, 2.5 hours of pushing is just exhausting as the same thing happened with both of my children, and I had instruments to help them out too. I think its pretty amazing how you can push for that long, then they get the vacuum and the baby comes out so fast!
This time round if baby doesnt move in the 1st hour Im going to ask for the vacuum or forceps!
Congratulations on your little baby, she has a lovely name :hugs:

Congratulations! You know now that you can pretty much take ANYthing! Why on earth would they reduce your epidural? Poor girl. But your baby is healthy, and you're recovering, so all's well. :)
