So, with my first dd I started weaning at 4 months because I was so excited! She took to it really well and we had no issues whatsoever!
My second dd is about to turn 6 months on the 10th march! now I have put off weaning for as long as possible because it's soooo much easier just on bottles but she is ready and deff wanting food! I started about a week ish ago with some purée, baby porridge etc, and gave her about 5-10 mouthfuls about 2pm each day. I have also offered finger food as she pretty much hates bin spoon fed and will clamp her mouth shut after about 4 mouthfuls! She has had toast and breadsticks etc and does well feeding herself with these. A few days back she has started refusing and purées and won't open her mouth at all, she will eat finger foods if I offer it.
She has also started refusing her bottles (she's not getting hardly any food so she isn't full from that)
She has started waking screaming durning the night, and I mean screaming! I was up with her from 11pm until 4am last night and I just couldn't do anything for her! this has happened the last 4 nights running!! She has always bin an amazing sleeper and has slept through 12 hours a night since been 8 weeks so this is really unusual for her!
Could this be related to weaning at all and trapped wind? I've not given her any solids at all today to see if this makes a difference. I feel like I'm weaning really half heartily as I'm just not into it!
Has anyone else experienced issues with waking in the night and being in pain since they started solids? Xx

I haven't experienced this but perhaps her tummy just isn't ready, or is eating too much too quickly? It also could be that she's just hungry if the has been off her milk. Her bottles are more important so I think I'd forget about weaning for now until I was confident her milk intake was ok.

Do you offer a bottle when she wakes? If her milk intake isnt up to much then i would offer one when she wakes. Have you tried offering solids at a different time instead? Maybe if you offer at breakfast instead she will be ready for a bottle by nap time or at least when she wakes up?

Actually, to me it sounds like maybe teething. We only did BLW (so just finger foods from 6 months) so not sure about the bit about refusing to be spoon fed as my daughter never let me spoonfeed her. But right after we started weaning, my daughter started to be funny about taking her milk and was waking hourly and crying at night. It wasn't related to food intake because with BLW they really don't eat much food at all to start, certainly not enough to put them off milk feeds. After two weeks of this, up popped 2 teeth and everything went back to normal. The pattern has been exactly the same with all the teeth that have come after those, even though she's been on solids for months.

It certainly could be just her tummy adjusting to solids, but if she's only having finger foods for the most part, I doubt she'd be having enough to cause too many problems unless she had an allergy or intolerance (we have a possible allergy and it resulted in a horrible red puff face and lots of projectile vomiting, so in the absence of obvious signs I wouldn't worry too much). How have her nappies been? We get watery poos and nappy rash in the couple weeks before teeth. As for weaning, I'd just keep doing what you're doing offering her finger foods but not forcing it if she's not interested. If she's feeling well enough and is hungry, she'll eat. They really do know what they're doing and what they need, even when it seems like they aren't getting enough.
