I am now feeding baby formula exclusively. He is six weeks old. I never actually did much breastfeeding to speak of. rather, i pumped and fed him by bottle. Initially, he just didn't seem to latch, and I became concerned he wasn't getting enough milk from my breast. He took to the bottle right away, so I have been pumping and bottle feeding (the breast milk) since his birth. I only needed to pump about three or four times a day since I get so much milk at each pumping. however, for a few reasons I decided to stop pumping completely. mainly, i decided to go back on the combination birth control pill (containing estrogen). apparently, these pills decrease milk production, and there is some concern about the effect of the hormone on babies via breast milk. also, soon enough i am returning to work and pumping would be very difficult. I also decided to stop because i felt like so much of my day was spent pumping...and as you ladies know, you can't do anything while you are pumping! i began to really dread it, and i didn't want my time spent on maternity leave pumping all the time. anyway, this is my second full day without pumping. my breasts are feeling pretty normal, and i truly feel liberated from the pumper! by the way, baby seems to love the formula.
