My 4wk old has had a "blockage" issue for nearly 2 weeks now. She doesn't poo for a day, although she is straining and extremely uncomfortable. The next morning she fills 4/5 nappies then nothing again til 2 days later. I asked for advice at the clinic on thurs and was told it's totally normal for this to happen to a LO and she will go back to her usual self soon. They told me to massage her tummy and her feet to help her but it doesn't seem to be working. they said at the clinic her poo is soft when she eventually goes so it's not constipation it's some kind of blockage.

Has anyone else had this experience with their LO?

:hugs:

i had the same problem with my little girl wen i changed her milk.

have u tried boiled water?

i gave her boiled water inbetween feeds and it settle down within a week

I've had this from my LO since birth. She was a once every 3 days girl and then it was dramatic! i went to clinc, the dr everywhere to be told they only get worried when it has been 6 days. Putting her on comfort milk helped as did bicycle legs and massage. She would be grotting as on poo day and her tummy would be really hard. The only thing that really helped is weaning but we waited until 6 months. Now she goes twice a day without much effort.

My son had the same problem. Here's what we have done. We changed his milk from SMA Gold to Cow & Gate. We try to give him 2 oz of cooled boiled water a few times a week. We also massage my son with olive oil for about 10-15 minutes each time before giving him a bath. All of these things have helped alot.

Thanks, I'm going to speak to my health visitor when she comes out on monday about what milk to change her to. I was at a baby massage class today and was told that sma isn't good if your baby has a sensitive tummy.

My boy does this too. He seems to be straining and I think he needs to go, prepare for a dirty nappy then nothing. Sometimes he goes everyday, sometimes he goes up to three days without going. I find that bicycling his legs helps with the discomfort. When he does go it's not hard so the HV says he's not constipated and he's already on Aptamil which I've been told by the HV is the best for relieving constipation as it makes their poo soft (don't know if that's true or not though). Am thinking of introducing some boiled water to see if that helps. X

Evie has always been like this. She poos every 2nd or 3rd day and then she'll go a few times during the day (quite explosively too!) to kinda make up for the non-poo days. Because her poos have never been hard, I've never worried. She's often made alot of straining noises which sound like she's having a problem passing her poos but that's all it is, noise! She's 5 months now and has stopped the straining noises and is pretty silent when pooing
You could try switching milk to Aptamil as this has a reputation for runnier poos (Aptamil mums will tell you all about chicken korma/peanut butter style poos ) Evie has been on this milk since she was switched to FF at 2 weeks old and I've never had a problem with her getting backed up. Altho having said that, changing milks can cause problems in themselves. It might be worth talking to your HV before switching to a different milk.
I came to the conclusion pretty early on that Evie just doesnt go every day which apparently is quite normal.

spoke to my health visitor today, she said they don't advise changing milk but since she was giving me 3-4 dirty nappies a day before there is clearly something up. Also Blair is such a happy content baby and this is causing her a lot of distress now. So she has told me to go ahead and change to a lighter milk. OH and I worked it back to when we started using the tins of SMA instead of the cartons. Going to change milks today
