i cant believe i am just shocked i took my baby into see the doc because he was having some diarrea that wasnt going away. The thing that worrie me the most was his hydration. The doc said i was doing great he was alittle dehydrated but nothing to worrie about. He desided to go ahead and take a stool sample and get it tested they called me back saying that my 10month old baby has cdiff:cry::cry::cry: I almost cried when i heard this. I see so many people OLDER people die from this sickness now my 10 month old has it. I just dont know what to think. I just need some advice or just some support please ladies:cry::cry::cry:

I'm sorry I have never heard of this. Sending some hugs though!:hugs:

aww thank you ladies. It just hurts because i know my baby is hurting and his little stomach has this horrible stuff in it!! He looks just miserable. We go back to the doc on monday He keeps spitting up his medicine too....

:hugs:Its so stressful. My lo has been treated for c diff around 4 months. She had diarrhea for over a month before being dx. I was told babies under 6 months can test positive and it be "normal" but since my lo was showing symptoms and i was on 2 rounds of antibiotics while nursing early on, possibly causing the overgrowth of bad bacteria c diff, they treated her with an antibiotic and told me to give her a probiotic also. My lo also has a milk allergy and was dx around the same time so im not sure how much it actually affected her.

I hope you lo gets better soon.

Thank you soo much you give me alot of hope!! I have no idea how on earth he would have gotton it. He is formula fed and hasnt been on any antibiotics to get it. He went to the ER for a cut on his eye a month and a half ago but thats it. I work in a nursing home and no one there has it so i know i didnt give it to him? Or could i have. I just dont know. So your lo so far as shown no more signs of it? I heard they can get it often after getting treated for it. My son is on metronidazole. And if you dont mind me asked what was her symptoms of it and what did her poo look like? Sorry if tmi

Please don't worry. I am a nurse and have yet to come across one person who has died of c-diff! It is more commonly an infection that anyone (not just older people) develop in hospitals as a result of too many antibiotics. It is very easily treatable though highly infectious through spores so change clothes daily, wash on a hot wash and wash your hands with soap and water (not alcohol gel). It really isn't as scary as you're feeling. Treat it like any diarrhoea and keep LO hydrated.

My pedi told me c diff naturally resides in the colon. It is usually maintained by good bacteria and your body keeps a healthy balance. Its just when there is an over growth of it, it can cause inflammation and ulcers in the colon. I wonder what triggered it in you lo though. The only symptom i can 100% relate to the c diff is the diarrhea. Her temp also stayed in the 99F for the longest but they never related it to c diff. She had tummy pain and cried alot but it was probably from a combo of that and the milk allergy. I just remember her poo was very smelly. The color was dark green but that was bc of the formula she was on. So far my lo hasnt got it again. They wont retest her unless she is displaying symptoms for fear of false positive. Hang in there!

Dory: Thanks for the advice xx i know antibiotics cause this but what about jonathan? He has never been on any antibiotic and almost never goes to the doc?

michelle: So you lo had a small fever with it. You see jonathan doesnt have a fever at all so far. His poo is yellow though witch is weird because normally its very dark green with the formual he is on?

C-diff can change poo's. It smells foul too :( We had an outbreak on our ward just before I went on mat leave. It's not nice but it will pass. Sending you :hugs:

Awww poor Jonathan sorry to hear that hope he gets better really soon sending hugs :hugs: :hugs: x

As the others have said, make sure to use soap and water, not hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer doesn't kill C.diff, so you have to be sure to use hot soapy water. Clean all baby toys in diluted bleach water bath, or hand clean if they can't be submersed in water. Wash all clothes in hot soapy water. You want to be sure to get EVERYTHING clean that could possibly have been in contact with your baby so that the baby doesn't get reinfected later.
