As a FTM I am totally new to this. Due to history of back problems the doctors think that I will be having a c section. This will happen probably next week! Having a meeting this week to discuss things further.

Right now I am scared. I don't know what to expect. Can anyone give me some details as what to expect on the day. Maybe if I knew more I would be less anxious

Hi, I have had 2 c-sections and have been very happy with them. My first was an emergency, i don't remember much after many drugs lol, my second was planned (which i'm guessing your having?) and had a great experience. I was at total ease because everything was explained to me. You will go into hospital, see drs etc then down to theatre. They will do their thing (nothing will be felt other than a bit of tugging) then you will meet your baby :). It seemed very quick aswell. I was in hospital for 3 days. You wont be able to move for a few hours due to the spinal but then recovery is quite quick. They will have you up no later than the next day.
I would say dont worry and take a list of questions.
Good luck xx

Hi! Congrats on your coming baby. I have also had two c-sections. I will say, please try to not have one if possible. I feel cheated out of the birthing process. My SIL had serious back problems, scoliosis and a steel rod put in her back because of scoliosis, and still delivered three healthy babies naturally. She was not able to use an epidural, but she did have them naturally and bounced back. C-sections are a major surgery and you do not bounce back as quick as naturally.

If there is a serious medical reason why you need one, you'll be fine. Although I don't recommend them, I am healthy and my two boys are healthy as well. :) Just listen to them and take your pain medicine as you should afterwards. I made the mistake of thinking I was better and ended up in a world of pain. Ouch. Also move move move. The more you move around, the less pain you're in. Both times as I was leaving the nurses told me they were shocked I was a section mom because of how well I got around. They said it was because of all the walking I did while in the hospital.

Whichever way it goes, good luck and a happy and healthy delivery. :)

I also might have to have a c section due to low lying placenta so this is a great thread. I really really don't want one as my first was all natural and a great labor but hearing other people talk about them helps ease the worry a little.

Just to add to this, I recovered far quicker from my c section than from my 'natural' delivery, physically and emotionally. My natural delivery left me traumatised for years, my section healed me from the trauma.. everyone is different and I know a c sec isn't the easy way out, but they can be beautiful and are not scary!xx
