It has been a battle all the way along since we found out we are having a boy. My bf and I have almost zero common ground with names.

He insisted on Zack for a bit, and I had issues with it but I came around because I am calling dibs on the middle name. My grandfather whom was very special to me passed about a year and a half ago (his name was Elgar so not first name material in my opinion). Anyhow I had settled on Zack and we were content with that for a short while...until he changed his mind and said he didn't want the name anymore and that the more he used it the more he disliked it. I was upset but I had issues with it anyhow (relating to what I consider proper spelling k vs. h).

I am 36 weeks as you can see from my ticker and I am on his case now because not only do we not have a name, but we don't even have a list of possible names. We had briefly considered Adrian but because I have a french language background it reminds me of Adrienne and makes it somewhat feminine to me.

Today he suggested the name Reeve, and I almost dismissed it immediately, but then I combined it with Elgar and it seemed to click. I wrote it down many times with my SOs surname and I fell in love. It is the only name that has felt right.

To me it seems cool sounding, and although it is not common it has a familiar sound to it. It is a legitimate name although it has fallen out of popular usage. My SOs last name is English in origin and Reeve Elgar is also completely English.

What do you think about it?

I actually don't mind that! It does roll off the tongue quite nicely. :)

Thanks, and I know I feel the same, it is quite surprising...I went from absolutely not to absolutely in love in record time lol.

It's cool - very different! It grew on me pretty quickly too!

It's lovely and sounds like a 'cool' name whilst also being timeless imo

Really like it - manages to sound cool without being a modern phase type name.

I really like too. not my usual kind of style but yup I really like it

I think because you decided you liked it in a very short amount of time then it is meant to be. :)

The same thing happened to me with our kiddos' names. Both before we found out gender but both were definitely the names :)

I like Reeve Elgar a lot.

Yes I really like the name Reeve - have never considered it before but you're right, you like it in an instant!

I like it, and as a previous poster said, the fact you knew you liked it very quickly would suggest you definitely do like it and could be the name you have been looking for :) .

I have a boy and 2 girls and I found naming the boy so difficult in comparison to naming the girls. With the girls it was more a hard choice out of a list of names we liked but with my son there were no names OH and I agreed on and we didn't have a name chosen until quite late.

I like it - doesn't sound too unusual, yet isn't common and certainly isn't trendy so it goes out of fashion in a few years.

Ive never heard it as a first name before and sort of love it!! Cool choice!

Thanks for the input ladies. I still love the name Reeve, but his dad backed out on it and we found a name we both equally enjoy. My son is now here and we named him Evan Elgar instead. Suits him and we are both in love with it and him of course
