My mother was 37 and my father was 38 when I was born. According to my mother, the reason for their difficulty conceiving was male/unexplained infertility. They turned to IVF and wound up with my twin sister and I! So, my question is: Am I anymore likely than the average person to have fertility issues? :nope:

We've been told fertility issues will/could be passed to the same sex
So male fertility will affect boys born through ivf
Female infertility will affect girls born through ivf. Best speaking to your doctor tho xx

Firstly. thank u for giving me hope with the fact ur a ivf baby;-)
Secondly, it tends to be female issues that are passed onto daughters.
My mum an dad ttc for 10yrs before having me- their only child.
My mum had tubal issues and i suffered the same but worse.
If its male factor, u may well be fine hun, so best of luck ttc xxx

Hi there, well the world's first IVF baby has gone on to be a mother and I am sure many others have too. There are so many things that can cause infertility and a lot of it is male related, age and circumstances so I can't see why you should have any problems. But I guess you could discuss it with your GP just to put your mind at rest. Good luck, Greta. xx

Just think Henry VIII had so many wives and yet only produced three children. Even though he blamed his first two wives for giving him daughters when it was his own fault.

I don't really belong in this section - but I pop in because my best friend is currently undergoing her second lot of IVF (had one failed IVF and one frozen transfer failed) and I want to try and understand how she is feeling etc. I hope no-one minds me lurking - I am now popping in every day almost to see how people are doing. This is my first post in this section though, and again I hope no-one minds.
Anyway, in answer to your question - I'm 31 and my parents tried for 7 years to get pregnant. They had one miscarriage and were about to start IVF when they fell pregnant with me. They went on to have my brother 25 months later, and then my other brother about 6 years after that. I worried I may have some problems, but I have been extremely lucky and blessed and fell pregnant after 4/5 months of trying.
Love and luck to you all. x

Hi there. I don't belong either, but I come by to see how people are doing. I did IVF this summer. My parents tried for me for 12 years. Now I have fertility issues. As far as I was told, it is usually passed from mother to daughter. I wouldn't worry about it, but talk to your doctor if you are concerned. Good luck!

Hi

My mum and dad had unexplained infertility and tried for 10 years, when they stopped trying they fell pregnant with me and then my sister turned up exactly 2 years later.

I have PCOS but my little sister had a baby a few weeks ago after 9months of trying, so you really never know!!

Fingers crossed that your TTC journey is a short one.

Moo xxxxxxxx

H2B & me have been unsuccessful for 7-8 yrs now, just stimming on our 1st IVF.

I had endo removed earlier this year, but it has damaged & blocked my tubes.

I'm the 3rd of 6 children! Mum is 1 of 7 & Dad is 1 of 6, so no probs there!!
My mums sister apparently had tube issues, but she went on to have 4 children in close succession.
My 1st cousin on my dads side has bad endo & we are very alike in many ways, After 3 laps, she eventually had a little boy this year - luckily her tubes were ok.

One of my Dads sisters is childless & I've wondered if it was due to similar. I have no proof as such, but my own uneducated opinion would be that certain issues run in families...
I suppose, if we do have children, a potential daughter might get endo, but then it doesn't affect everyone the same way.

Aaaaah i don't know ladies.... Both DH and i were born to parents who had no troubles concieving. i've got endo, he has low morphology (but he has two kids!)... Not related if you ask me...

Like teapot I come from a very fertile family and am the only one who had problems conceiving. For me it's simply the way I'm built as my Fallopian tubes are too thin so got blocked & damaged - both at both ends so it was practically impossible for us to concieve without the miracle of ivf.

On a different note - How did your parents tell you that you are an ivf baby? We have a beautiful baby girl thanks to ivf and intend to tell her how we got her (age appropriate obviously). We have already given her a 'madeday' which is the day she was made at bourn hall and we will celebrate it like a birthday in our little family, telling her not all children have 2 birthdays but she is super special to us.

Good luck in you ttc.

My twin and I were born through IVF, and yet I conceived the first month of TTC.

I was convinced I would have problems as my Mum had problems (trying for 7 years, numerous ops, etc etc) and my stepmum had the same problem as my Mum so my twin half-sisters were also born through IVF (I know it's not a reason as I am not a blood relative of my stepmother, but I seemed to grow up only seeing IVF babies lol!) Plus I work in a fertility clinic so I see infertile couples every day. But hey presto, first cycle TTC and pregnant!

I wouldn't worry yourself hun, and if by chance there are any problems just think that you'll cross that bridge if it comes to it. xx

unless your parents had a hereditary problem you have no more chance than the average woman of having fertility issues
