Can babies have Mr Whippy Ice cream from the van? I'm not sure on this as on one hand its milk as food, on other hand we weren't allowed (in theory) to eat when pregnant. I give sugary treats to my children on the occasions I have them (whole family eats the same things which is usually healthy, but its like a thousand degree's out there and nom.... icecream!!) so no need for the sugary treats debate. DS is currently eating the cone minus the ice cream bit which I ate for him.

I think it's ok - as long as its a treat thing. They are allowed cows milk from 6 months on cerel and stuff.

My lo had her first ice cream from the van yesterday (well actually she snatched mine and ate the lot) I haven't heard of it being a problem,ur will always get different opinions on this but im ok with it....she loved it as u can see lol

Mummytolola ~ too cute!!!

I think its fine too :) i jus let my LO lick my ice cream n she LOVED it, i thought she'd hate it bein cold but nope lol x

Yeah go for it! That's what these rare sunny days in the UK are all about! X

I think its fine for baby's over 6 months

I would allow a lick :). I love seeing babies reactions to new foods

It's the listeria risk I'd be most bothered by, but it's such a slim chance, I'd probably go for it if there was nothing else around.

I'd say fine, It's pasteurised.

If you're worried make your own ice lollies using Natural yoghurt and banana. I made them for Jas when she was younger and she LOVES them. We have one of those feeding net things (https://www.amazon.com/Munchkin-Pack-Fresh-Feeder-Colors/dp/B000GK5XY2) and I used to put a cube in there :)

I wouldn't for this reason. It's quite a big listeria/food poisoning risk.

I've always thought babies weren't mean to have soft icecream until a year old for that reason.

I once saw inside one of the machines, and it was literally green . I can't enjoy eating them after that. I'd rather have the real stuff anyway.

Gross! I didn't know that. I'd personally not give that type of ice cream to a baby but even more set against it now!

Ewww, Lalalala not listening to Tacey!!! I didn't want that image. I like Whippy Icecream :(

He's happy enough with the cone's so I think I'll stick to that for now on when the Ice Cream van comes round. I couldn't remember the reason it was no go in pregnancy but listeria doesn't sound much fun.

I've let my LO have a bit this weekend when we went to the seaside, I got him a cone and just put a little of my ice cream on x

I tend to get ice creams from a shop, from vendors selling 'hard' ice cream or from somewhere I know is very clean...we have a cafe in town with a cornetto soft serve machine, it's right in the middle of the place, for all to see, so we've had something from there.

Like Tacey, I am concerned about listeria risks and general grot from Mr Whippy...and I've seen a machine that wasn't cleaned properly and...just urghhhhh!

It's like runny egg IMO so I guess one year? Very small risk with large consequences so it's a tough one to call.
