Dear All

After a miscarriage 5 years ago at the first attempt of trying, my husband and I have now had the tests and have been referred by our GP to a consultant at Medway hospital. Can anyone tell me how long we will have to wait to see a consultant and also how long we can expect to wait before treatment starts. It is all so daunting at the moment - we never expected it to come to this.

Many thanks

xx

Hi Bert

I am in Kent too. I started treatment in London before moving back to Kent and had to start all over again.

I went to Pembury and was told I had to wait three years... Hubby and I then had a chat and asked the GP to refer us to the South East Fertility clinic in Tunbridge Wells (its private) Funnily enough though I could get treated on the NHS there and was picked up in a couple of weeks. I then had an IUI two months later. I had two IUIs, one June one October. They are a really busy clinis.

Unfortunatly all funding then stopped. So we raided all savings and booked in for IVF. We booked in straight away. I suppose the stopping of funding freed up their books again.

I would recommend them, they have been good to me. It just depends if you have the cash.

I hope this helps, so in answer to your question, if you have the cash you do not have to wait long at all!

Give me a shout if you want any more info

x

Hi Mrs JPC

Thanks so much for your response. Unfortunately my husband and I arent in a position to pay for it ourselves. My GP seemed to think we wouldnt have a problem with funding as we meet all the criteria - i.e. no children from previous relationships, there is a diagnosed problem and we are in the right age bracket. I have also joined weightwatchers to get my BMI down so am doing everything I can. Also my GP seemed to think the waiting time was within 18 weeks. Not sure whether this meant waiting to see the consultant at the Medway or starting treatment. We come under East Kent and Coastal PCT and I know the funding was stopped there just before Christmas but my GP didnt have any hesitation in referring us.

Thank you so much for your information - every bit helps and the more we know the more we can start saving and planning for our little bean.

18 weeks is right Bert that is what I was told when I went private and then got an NHS referal. It was actually only about 6 in the end!

Good luck!!

Sorry but think I am being a bit of a div this morning! Did they say 18 weeks until you first see the consultant or 18 weeks until you start treatment? Think my head is in the clouds a bit with everything that is going on.

Thanks

xx

I think it is treatment. Everywhere is different I guess. Just keep on at them if you can. Good luck x
