I was just sat here thinking about what to give my sister and her OH for Christmas. They've just had a baby (four days ago :cloud9: ), and I want to give them something nice.

I think what we might do, is give them some money, and an offer of babysitting for the night/a few hours during the day whilst they spend the money on doing something nice together. They don't drive either, so I'll offer to drive them to and from their destination.

Does that sound OK? I would've loved it if someone did this for us!

God yeah that sounds lovely!!!! Could u make the offers of babysitting into little christmassy coupons for them to redeem??? Maybe u could buy them a cinema voucher/voucher for a local restaurant etc? x

sounds good would of loved it someone did that for me x

That sounds like a brilliant idea! I would have loved it x

I was going to say give vouchers for the movies and a nice restaurant nearby and a little coupon to give them free baby sitting.

I think if I were your sister I'd love you very much lol. Also IMO money is better than vouchers in this case so they can spend time as a couple doing whatever they want, not sticking to a preset 'plan' x

I can definitely see what you're saying, but I think it depends on the kind of people they are. Sometimes people need a little push to treat themselves. If you give cash, they might feel they should spend it on something practical or for the baby. I love a "set plan" because then I don't feel guilty about what I could be spending the money on, it's already spent, might as well have a great time! Plus, it shows that you thought a little bit about what they would enjoy doing, where they might like to eat out, that kind of thing. Just a thought.

You have a point there, although knowing my sister she will want to go to the cinema and then out for dinner. I don't think she'll want to spend it on the baby, we'll be giving the baby her own pennies

That's a lovely idea & I wish someone would do that for me for christmas, I'd love it!
