Ideas for increasing freezer stash

I'll try to make the explanation short.....

I stayed home with my baby until she was 3 months old and acquired a pretty good freezer stash! Even after I went to work, I still had opportunities to increase the stash. I'm a teacher, and by the end of the school year...the stash was gone! I took my last bag to the sitter on the last day of school. During the last 2-3 our supply-demand got a bit off, I think.

Now that it's summer and LO and I are together all the time, my supply and her demand have evened out perfectly, but I don't see how I can get my freezer stash back up for right when school starts back up. After we get back into the routine of me pumping a couple times during the day while she's at the sitter, it should work out ok, but what about for the first couple weeks?

I feel like if I pumped after she eats, the next time she eats she's frustrated like, "um, where's all the milk?" After LO goes to bed, I wait until right before I go to bed and pump but usually only get like an ounce total--maybe 2! My supply has always been at it's lowest at night--which I've heard it odd.

Sorry so long, but any suggestions to increase the freezer stash? Seems almost impossible to me.

Pump an hour after she eats assuming she eats every 2-3 hours ,

It won't take long for the supply to increase that way and she will nurse more but your body is actually very efficient at making milk and a hour or to it will make more . She might nurse more for a day or 2 but it will catch up

I find that I get the most milk right after her first night feel. For example, my LO goes to bed between 9 and 10. She will usually sleep until 3 or 4. So by then, my breasts are ready to go and nice and full. I will feed her, lay her back down and then pump for at least 10 minutes. I will usually get at least 3 total ozs if not 4 or 5 ozs.

Good luck!!

My breasts are always emptiest at night so I always pump first thing in the morning before DD wakes up. When I first started, she would fuss a bit about the lack of flow but it didn't take long for my body to kick it in gear and up the milk production (not even a week). Here lately she doesn't nurse for the first hour or 2 when she first wakes up so now I get even more than I used to :happydance:

Good luck :flower:
