We got engaged for chrimbo there and OH & I have been bouncing ideas back and forth about what we want to do for our wedding.

I am adamant that I want something small - really really small! OH on the other hand wants a bit of a party with all our friends but not a proper wedding.

Would it be asking too much to spread our wedding over two days??

I was thinking that we could have a really small wedding on say a Friday. Have only family and very close friends, 20-25 people in total, if even that. Have the ceremony and enjoy good food, wine and company after. Then OH & I could go off to a really romantic, fancy hotel that I've allllways wanted to stay in and enjoy some time on our own, enjoying our newly-wed-dom :D

Then the next night having a bit of a party for all our friends, playing music we want to listen to and maybe inviting the wider family also. There def will be NO abba megamix lol. They'll be lucky if they get a buffet!

I know my mum will hate this idea. She hates anything that is in anyway different and 'not normal'. I just wanted to bounce this off the ladies here before I told anyone else!

Venue is key so am in the midst of coming up with the perfect venue, but it will be a cosy, small, romantic, country restaurant for the wedding day and a cool, good vibe place for the party the next day...

That sounds like a nice idea - even if its not "normal" - your day/days should be whatever you want it to be

Most married people say their wedding day goes far too fast anyway - so what a great idea to celebrate again the next day. A friend of mine lives in ireland and she's doing something similar - she told me it was pretty normal for wedding celebrations to run over 2 or 3 days.

Good Luck x x

Were having only very close family, about 20 people, we want our day to be about us and the people we care about. :) Your plans sounds perfect.

Sounds a good idea to me, that way you both get sort of what you want? If that makes sense? :dohh:

We are not having a massive wedding but are starting on the Thursday night by having dinner with the guests that are staying overnight before then getting wed on the Friday afternoon and party into the night. We are then having breakfast with the guests on Saturday morning before going away on honeymoon.

Our original plan (til we brought it forward to this month!) was booking a youth hostel in Loch Lomond and taking 50 of our closest family and friends away with us for 2 nights. We were going to have a meal with everyone on the Friday evening, marry Saturday, no reception but mulled wine and mine pies etc (was booked for the week before Christmas 2010) and have a party thing in the evening. The biggest cost for us was going to be the catering but we'd budegted everything to come in around £4,500. Definitely not traditional but still on a budget. I was really looking forward to it but we're now having a traditional thing closer to home (arranged in less 6 than weeks!)
