My little guy and I have been working on getting rid of the darn old shield. Last week he decided he was done with it :yipee: Only problem is he had a very shallow latch because he was used to the the shield. We've been working in it but because of some cracking and bleeding we had to go back to the shield for a few days.

I have really been trying to make sure he gets a good mouthful now that we're shield free again. And it's not hurting!! But he doesn't drink for as long as he used to. I read that a shallow latch could make you lose your milk. Now I'm worried that it's not hurting because he's only drinking for a few minutes because I don't have enough milk anymore...

I worry about everything :dohh:

Congrats on hanging in there, mama! I thought my daughter's latch was still shallow too but we've been breastfeeding painlessly for a month now, and she's gaining weight, so I think we're doing okay. Is your little guy having enough wet and poopy diapers? Does he seem content after a feed? Babies get better at transferring milk as they get older so he could just be a very efficient feeder like my daughter

Thank you :)

Yes, he's having enough wet and poopy diapers, as far as I can tell. I wanted to check his weight gain because he was weighed last week and then again this week but on 3 different scales so that wasn't really helpful. He was weighed last week at 15 lb 12 and then this week on Tuesday 15 lb 14 and on Thursday 16 lb 2. So, while I don't think he gained 4 oz in 2 days, I do think he is still gaining at a normal rate.

He was at the pediatrician on Thursday and the doctor said he is doing great. He had his needles on Tuesday and the public health nurse was happy with him too.

I will keep a close eye on how he is doing. :)

He is content after feeding, very smiley and happy. But, that is his personality. He's a very happy and content little guy. :cloud9:

Thanks again for your help!

Congrats on your little girlie and doing so well with bfing too!

I would just go by diapers hon. Weight gain can be slow for weeks at a time at his age. It sounds like you are doing great :hugs:
