Hi everyone-Happy new Year!

ok so i need so much advise and help as im so confused and have an appointment on Thursday with my doc and want to be prepared.....

Basically I have mild PCO( had scans few years back with showed cycysts, though all my bloods was fine and just had bloods done again and was fine but I dont have periods ( last one was last February) we have been TTC for over 2 years so went to the doctor to be asked to be refereed-this was back in November, doc asked for seman sample hubbys results came back and wasnt too good at all. here is what they where in November...

Volume:3ml Fluid
PH.8.0
Motility. 44% motive, 9% sluggish,9% non Progressive,38%non motile
Vitality. 85% alive,15% dead
count.118 million per mil
Morphology.4% normal, 96% abnormal forms.

Now the doc said all was fine apart from the Morphology as it was low-they like to see a basic of 15% ( Though ive heard else where its actually 5% they want? ) anyway the doctor made him do another semen sample 4 weeks later. IN the mean time he was trying vitamins to boost the levels and we have just got the results today and Im quite upset and so is hubby, as this is what he got:

Volume: 3.4ml
Motility. 60% Rapid, 4% sluggish, 5% non progressive,31% non motile.
Count. 150 Million
Morphology. 2% Normal, 98 % Abnormal

As you can see the morphology is even lower then the first time but everything else is better but Ive heard the morphology one is the most important?? now we do have a 3 year old that we somehow managed to conceive naturally after 6yrs and we really want to be refereed but last time I saw my doc he said that if my husbands levels where low again, he wouldnt be able to refer me on the NHS?? I know we wouldnt get IVF as we have a son but i at least want him to refeer me so i could try clomid, so you think he will refeer me??... My appointment is on Thursday what do you think he will do?? any advise is great. thanks you so much

Hi There Jen! Sorry, I'm not able to help and answer your questions but I wanted to wish you goodluck. I do have PCOS (mild) and faced with low semen analysis as well. I know how hard it is to have both issues. I have heard our Specialists tell us that she was very happy with motility and morphology ... and that having low sperm count is not as bad as having low motility and morphology. BUT ... low motility and morphology are easier to correct with vitamins etc ... My husband had an undescended testes as a child and that's what caused the low numbers.

Anyway, I wanted to wish you luck and babydust!!!

to be honest i don't think you have much to worry about with either SA - his count is so AWESOME that it makes up for the morphology ! :flower:

Hi, thanks ladies for getting back to me. really is it good?Im so happy you have gave me some info and replied-it give me hope. Im so new to all of this and dont know if the results are good or bad- we thought it was really bad news as the moph was so low, we actually thought it meant he was shooting blanks if that makes sense?

my appoitment has been brought forward to tomorrow now, quite nervous about what he will say, any advise?? do u think i will get refereed? x

the morphology is the shape of the sperm - some sperms can have two heads, two tails, no tail etc

the highest morphology my dh ever got was 9% and he averaged at 9 million sperm with very poor motility too - we managed to conceive last time despite the fact that i also have severe endo.

i would have thought that they'd refer you anyway due to how long you've been trying

good luck tomorrow xx

Hi,
