How long did it last before the teeth came in? Did they seem cheerful/normal otherwise, or was it accompanied by other symptoms? Did it cause yours to start going at night when they hadn't been before?

Just trying to figure out whether what we're seeing is likely to be from teething. Thanks :flower:

mine didn't have diarrhea, more like just a looser messy poo. my niece had a bug and had diarrhea for a week, it was like exlposive and would fill the diaper each time and go through her clothes.

has your LO been vomiting too? fever, etc?

p.s. my LO had the big teething symptoms for at leat a week before her tooth came in last time

Not watery diarrhea, just looser poo and lots of it, and increasing over the past week or so. No vomiting or fever and he seems completely normal, cheerful, and energetic.

On Monday the doctor said teeth are likely a few weeks away. I can't feel anything yet but his gums are pretty swollen. I just hope this doesn't go on for another few weeks...

yeah, I think my LO is gearing up for some teeth right now although can't see anything yet.

She has also had a runny/stuffy nose so she's swallowing all this drool and then sputtering, biting everything, and going around with her tongue out all the way. lol

my lo just cut his third tooth yesterday. For the last 2 days before it cut he had gone off his milk, was very grumpy and had loose poop. now he is back to his normal self. :)

Mine had it for a week and then it stopped but no teeth yet!

Mine has awful nappies, really loose, loads of it, leaky and really offensive smelling and needs nappy changes in the night at alsorts of random times.

She never dribbles but has bright red cheeks and is very restless. Sometimes it can last a few weeks before the tooth pops through but we usually get at least 2 within a week but they rumble away for a few weeks before. The first 2 came within a week of each other, then nothing for 3 mths then all 4 top teeth came within a week, followed by another 2 bottom a couple of weeks later.

Oh yeah, runny nose too!

He had a bit of a runny nose earlier in the week but it went away...he's also drooling surprisingly little, so I assume he's swallowing it and that's why he's having the loose BM. Sounds like maybe...thanks, ladies...anyone else?

Hi there,

My little one has been pooing round the clock since last Sunday! Normally we would get one out of him a day if that but now we are getting 4 or 5, some of them are normal consistency some of them are very runny.

He is fine in himself though, no fever, sickness, grumpiness at all and still eating and sleeping normally.. which is amazing considering he started nursery this week too!

He does have a horrible nappy rash though which I hate to see but can't be helped with the amount of poo he's producing. I'm hoping it is teething but it's possible it could be a bug, he is very drooly and chewing everything in sight.

Forestfire, that sounds very similar to us except for the sleeping normally! And our boys are a day apart. Do come back and update if you figure out what it is!

I will do! You too :-) how odd they are so close together too x

My lo has had very runny & frequent number 2's since Friday. He is otherwise fine, no temp, vomiting etc so I have put it down to his teething.

My little girl is 6 months and has had diarrhoea for a week now. She has got all the teething signs but no signs of any illness so am putting it down to her teeth.

Will be keeping an eye on it though.

Everyone please come back and let us know when you see those teeth! None here yet. Lots of drool today.

I just took my lo to the doc due to his diarrhea (which I had put down to teething) just incase and the doc has prescribed antibiotics for an infection. I'm a little skeptical to give him antibiotics as he really has no other symptons of anything!

Is diarrhea actually a common side effect of teething?

it is believed that diarrhoea is not a side effect of teething but many people have reported that thier lo did get loose poop while teething.

with every tooth my lo has cut (he just cut his third one the other day) he has always has loose poop and a little high temp 2-3 days before the tooth cut. He does not drool a lot but chews on his lips, hands and his bottles. he was very grumpy and did not sleep well for 2 days before it cut.

Yeah, from what I've read it's not an established link but there's anecdotal support.

Ours is still getting it and his sleep has gotten really terrible so I'm just hoping we get some teeth out of it! :haha:

Our doctor said it was a stomach bug too, but no antibiotics fortunately. How strange that yours would give antibiotics with no other symptoms.

Our little man went from 5pm to this morning with no poo but then had 3 poos at nursery today, two of which were loose. They seem to think he is ok and it will either be a bug or teething, hopefully it will wear off soon as I hate seeing his sore little bum :-(
