if your baby had diarrhea while teething

Hello all, just an update, little man is still having the loose stools. He ran out of clothes at nursery yesterday due to seepage! :-(

I took him to the docs, she said it could be a bug so they took a stool sample this morning to send off to the hospital for tests and if it comes back with a bug/infection we will get antibiotics apparently? If its clear and the problem continues they will refer him to the hospital for tests on allergies and intolerances.

I'm really hoping a tooth just pops through soon and it wears off as I think nursery will send him home soon if it continues..not that I wouldn't want to be at home with him but I've just returned to work and don't want to give the wrong impression. :-(

Oh thats not good. Hope he feels better soon. How long has he had the runs now?

Hi my Jack has cut 3 teeth in the last 4 days! Strangely he has been fine this week, but last week he was dribbly red cheeks awful rash over chin, and pooping up to 9 times a day!!!!! His napoy rash was actually bleeding at one point :( We've been dealing with 6 am poops for quite some time too. I was sure he'd get a tooth last wk or the wk before but nothing. Then just as he gets better and stops pooping so much, 3 teeth appear! So it obv was teething causing everything, just took a week or two for them to appear.

Hope it's quick for your Lo!

My LO has awful teething nappies. Really slimy, stinky and with weird stringy bits in it (TMI). It only tends to be for a couple of days before teeth come through. I get too scared to go out after 1 too many incidents in the car! But after the funny tummy days she then gets really irritable and won't take her bottles or food. Oh, and she cries a lot in the evening when teething too.

I'm sorry to hear that, forestfire :( we're still having it too, but not at night for the past couple nights (touch wood!!!) so I'm just happy about that. LO is back to sleeping better at night, too. So I'm not sure what's going on. It's getting close to two weeks now. Just hoping we're like Boo's Jack (congrats on his teeth btw!) and they will appear suddenly after all!

I know what you mean about not making the wrong impression at work :hugs: I have found it is best to avoid speculating about what people are thinking, and worry only about what people express to me directly!

When my eldest was little he had runny poops for a good few weeks. I was panicking and took him to the doctors etc but in the end it was just his teeth. His poo was very acidic and it was the only time he really got nappy rash. The doctor said teething doesn't cause this symptom but the health visitor agreed with me that it was definitely his teeth. They swallow extra saliva and this causes the runny, acidic poo.

Hi Ladies, its reassuring to know there are so many babies that have similar signs to Jack and it was teething in the end. He is at that age and it has come from nowhere so hopefully it is that.

Last couple of days he has been eating less and drinking more milk at nursery too. In terms of how long he has had the really runny nappies I would say last two or three days. Last week and over the weekend it was pure volume of poo but now they are runny and not nice at all.

He fell asleep tonight while I was changing him from his bath and then pooed again just after a clean nappy went on... typical! :-)

I just feel so sorry for him because other than this he is doing so well, he has really come on in the last few weeks, it feels like he is changing every day!

I've decided that at work I'm going to be completely honest as that's the only real way to deal with it. My boss is very focussed and wants professionalism at all times but she is also very understanding so I'm lucky. I'm still buying a few extra days holiday for this year to make allowances for emergencies.

Hi there,

My little one has been pooing round the clock since last Sunday! Normally we would get one out of him a day if that but now we are getting 4 or 5, some of them are normal consistency some of them are very runny.

He is fine in himself though, no fever, sickness, grumpiness at all and still eating and sleeping normally.. which is amazing considering he started nursery this week too!

He does have a horrible nappy rash though which I hate to see but can't be helped with the amount of poo he's producing. I'm hoping it is teething but it's possible it could be a bug, he is very drooly and chewing everything in sight.

This exactly. She normally goes once a day and she's been going a lot more. Today only twice but yesterday was like 5 times. She's not sick, no fever and still seems pretty happy. Pretty bad diaper rash though. I'm hoping it's teeth.

Ugh, sorry to hear that, rbourre. Sounds like it has to be either teething or a VERY similar stomach bug for all of our LOs! Come on teeth!!!

Just wanted to update, since I couldn't find any updated threads on this back when I was looking for them. I can just feel LO's first tooth starting to cut through today. He stopped having loose stools a few weeks after he'd started. So I don't think it had anything to do with teething :( no loose stools recently, in fact the opposite if anything, but I think that has to do with eating more solids.

Hope other LOs, diapers, teeth are well!
