Until my pregnancy with Leo, Violet was able to nurse on demand... provided I was around. I am the working parent in my household, my husband is a stay-at-home dad. In the last half of pregnancy, I night weaned Violet due to sore nipples and a lazy latch. After Leo's birth, she had to learn to share the nursing and eventually, I started to limit her to 2 or 3 nursing sessions a day. Then I started limiting her to two sessions. All through this time, Violet continued to ask repeatedly about nursing when it wasn't an option and get upset about me saying "no" or cutting her off when she had nursed too long. Well, in recent months, it started to be less important. She also wanted to be done with night time diapers. I told her about how she was out of them at 2 when I didn't have any milk. So, we talked about moving her night nursing session to earlier in the day. So she then could nurse morning and afternoon instead of morning and night. Well, all of a sudden she started saying conflicting things like asking to nurse, but then saying she didn't want to nurse. Or she'd think she had to nurse to get the cuddle and story she wanted. I'd let her know I'd still read to her and cuddle her even if she didn't want to nurse. So slowly she started asking for those things instead of nursing. She'd also choose to not nurse when it was an option or forget to ask at certain times. She has asked to nurse a couple times recently in the evening (I say no because of the timing), but overall, she has said she's done with nursing forever. She went from saying she'd never stop nursing one week to saying she's done with it forever the next. I have to say, I'm relieved to be done with it at this point. One nursling is enough! Now to figure out if I want to night wean Leo at 2ish or let it work itself out naturally...
