I Have been feeding my 12 month old successfully since birth with no problem, until now. About three weeks ago I developed what I thought was a milk blister; it was a painful white spot on my nipple. Although the spot has gone now, I am in agony when I feed on that side. There Is a cracked sore patch there and although the initial pain of her latching soon wears off, as soon as she has finished feeding I have agonising shooting pains in my breast on that side only. I feel like my breast is being stabbed with glass. It is on one side only and everything I have read about thrush says you have to have it on both? I am only feeding twice a day now, morning and night but tha pain is so severe that I am thinking of stopping. There is no point in seeing my GP as he is a man who knows nothing about breastfeeding. I just have no idea what to do as it is getting worse every day .

See your gp, he can refer you to someone who knows about breastfeeding if he doesn't know anything himself. He may surprise you, dont assume he doesnt know about breastfeeding just because he is a man. Doesn't sound like thrush to me. You should get it checked out, no garuntee the problem will disappear just by stopping breastfeeding, and if it is thrush you'll need antibiotics anyway

Thanks, but I've tried the GP route before. What makes you think it doesn't sound like thrush? If it is thrush I would need anti fungal medication. I will maybe try to call LLL and get their advice.
