It seems that every time i feed Ffion she goes into fits of screams :( she will latch on for 5 minutes and then all hell breaks loose and she'll just start with this high pitched scream and wont latch back on. its been 3 days now and i just dont know what to do. i expressed some milk yesterday and she had the whole bottle without any screaming at all.

i just dont know what to do. i know expressing milk wont work in the long run so what should i do?

Could it be that your breasts are too full for her to latch on properly? Maybe try expressing out a little bit and then trying...

:hug:Can you talk to your health visitor? Are there any breastfeeding groups near you?
They'd be a lot more help I'm sure :)

Hope you get this sorted soon hun

I would find a consultant quick. When Bella was in the hospital at the beginning we had a LC come visit daily and she was SO helpful! I would google the Le Leche League in your area as well.

Where in N Wales are you hun? You really would benefit from a bit of support from a bf professional.....I'm right down in Gwynedd? Prob one of the best Lactation Consultant in the UK (IMO) is in Bethesda up near Bangor? Are you close enough for either of us to help?

I really think relaxing and pumping, and giving her EBM for a couple of days and just enjoying being Mummy might do you some good, and when you've chilled a bit, we can work at getting her back on the breast.

Babies are like barometers....she's probably picking up your tension here.

Let me know where you are and I'll see who I can find....

I mentioned this in one of our other threads, but I wonder if little Ffion is developing a bit of an aversion to the breast?

https://www.breastfeeding.com/reading_room/oral_trauma.html

I used the search feature at kellymom.com and at breastfeeding.com using the word aversion and got quite a lot of good articles. They'd be worth a read.

Even if that isn't what Ffion's issue is, they have some great information and some good techniques for 'general' breastfeeding issues that may work for you anyway :)

I kind of agree with the others- the bfing thing has seemed to be really stressful for the both of you. She may be picking up on your tension/stress and that is making it difficult for her to connect with you and latch on properly. I would definetly recommend an LC- they could give you the support and help you need.

ok girls i took your advice and decided to buy an electric breastpump and express some milk yesterday afternoon... but i only managed to get 1oz from both breasts combined.. last week i could express over 2oz from each! i really think that my milk is just fading away :( . yesterday i spent most of the evening expressing milk and trying to bring my supply back up and today Ffion is back on the breast but only for 5min a time :(

im trying not to stress, i want to do the best for my baby

Tezzy I just posted this in your other thread, I think your lil one may be suffering from reflux. Talk to your GP so he/she cn check it out because if that is the case they can def help out your lil one to make breastfeeding easier!

My LO had to take medicine twice a day for reflux. Before taking the medicine her tummy would rumble loads, she'd fuss badly on the breast, go on and off and on and off etc.

Hunny, don't panic if you are getting less with a pump than you expect. My milk is plentiful in the boob....but I always get less with a pump. Try placing a warm flannel to the breast (not hot) for a few mniutes first, and just gently massaging, to encourage flow. Lots of skin to skin contact will help keep your milk in, and even just pumping a tiny amount will help.

I've contacted a couple of people see who works in your area....and I'll be in touch. to you both. And don't worry...I have every faith you'll have no problems getting back on track.

Keep it up- get as much skin-to-skin contact and pumping in as possible and you guys will be pros before you know it! Do you have anyone who can come watch your oldest for a day or two just to give you some "only you and baby" time? That might help as well- don't know how realistic it would be to make it happen though.

Tezzy, I've pm'd you with some contact details of a LC and BF counsellor who is happy to help and waiting to hear from you :hugs:
