I'm new with pcos

Hey everyone, I'm liz and I've just found out yesterday that I have pcos. I know it doesn't help being overweight and smoke but I'm determined to loose weight and stop smoking to prepare my body for a child. I'm just so scared that I won't be able to conceive, do u know wot I'm supposed to do now? I feel so depressed bcoz all I want is a baby and now it feels like il never be able to. Please help me. X

I found these links useful. Your dr should be able to guide you as to how your pcos should be treated - everyone varies with pcos so it will depend on how you are affected as to how your dr proceeds.

Sorry to hear you have PCOS, but please remember that many people with PCOS concieve normally and naturally.

What did you Dr suggest for next steps??

Losing weight will help and a low gi diet is usually advised. Im actually doing WW and its working well for me (apart from the last week where ive been a bit bad!!).

HoneyWright, my doctor has prescribed me Orlistat which ive been on before... i absoultely hate it. The doctor jus gave them to me and didnt tell me wot i shud or shudnt do! and i found out the hard way lol. its just gettin the motivation and will power now. all i keep thinkin of is the thought of a baby. it just seems soo far away.

Sarah, congratulations!!! ill hava look at ur success story!! i just feel like im ruling all possibilty of having my own bcoz i want it sooo much. my husband has been really supportive and tries to keep my positive which helps but wen im on my own my mind always wonders back to..."wot happens if i cant conceive" "wen wil it be my turn" " why me " i hate self pitying but its all i seem to do. hopefully it will pass its just so fresh right now.

i have been on bnb but in the ttc forum, just found out today via a transvag that i have cysts all over my ovaries.

do you find the orlistat helps or do you get lots of side effects? have you been offered metformin?

trying to gather as much info for my docs appt friday, like to go armed and dangerous xxx

Hi ineedaseed, sorry to hear about ur problems hope everything turns out for u. Orlistat is horrific!!!! I absoultley hate it. I get real bad side effects but still trying to figure out wot I can n can't eat. I lost a stone in a month with it last time but weight drops off me easily at first bcoz there is alot of it lol. I don't no wot metaformin is to b honest. I have to make an appointment with my doctors in a week to c wot I can do. They still haven't got back to me about my blood tests. All they r guna say is loose weight n stop smoking then they will give me help for a baby. That's my guess anyway. Wots ur situation?? Xxx

oooo i will be wary of the orlistat then. metformin is for if you have pcos and are insulin resistant, it is what they use for people with diabetes too. they also have side effects such as upset tummy etc, nothing is easy eh!
i have been off bcp since june 2006 and properly tracking cycles on ff for past 12 cycles, just about to head to cycle 13! had bloods tests done but only mid cycle rather than cd3 and 21.. found i have underactive thyroid. had a scan yesterday and found lots of cysts which they say are consistent with pcos, docs appt friday.
they should definately do something to help. when did you have the bloods done? is it via your gp? xx

One step at a time hun. Firsty, quit the fags. They are doing the most harm and you'll have to quit anyway once youre pregnant. (trust me - ex heavy smoker!!!)

I also have pcos and am STRUGGLING to lose weight. I have a FS appt next week so I am on Cambridge Diet to try and shed a stone before then! I have a book called PCOS for Dummies - its about £8 on Amazon. It's got a lot of straightforward advise, easy information and dietary assistance - money well spent!

Oh and I was overweight 4 years ago too and conceived a very lovely little boy. It is totally possible so don't lose heart. xx

Sorry again lol bcoz i dont no any of the "cd" "bcp" "ff" so i dont quite understand ur post lol lame i no but im new!
i had my bloods done at the doctors a couple of weeks ago then they sent me to get my scan done where she showed me all the cysts on both ovaries she sed something like "10-14days the scan wil get to the doctors" so i guess i wait until doctors call me to see wot to do next and to tell me my results.
Everyone is different on orlistat tho so i wouldnt rule it out it does do the job, its just not very nice. try everything once as they say!

Thank u for ur post. it does help i no i need to give up i have cut down still tryin to find some willpower! my husband dont smoke which helps on that front but he eats crap and is sooooooo skinny! its not fair! so im trying to sort a menu for the week of healthy stuff he cud eat too.
i was goin to do the cambridge diet but iv got sooooo many bills i cant afford it. goodluck with it!!
