Morning ladies, sorry to post such a downer thread I'm just really concerned.

I hired a hi-baby doppler and I've been trying to find bub's for the last 4 or 5 days and still can't :( I'm really worrying that something is wrong as my sickness seems to be going too (of course thats kind of a good thing tho)

I'm 12 weeks today and today should be a happy day but instead I'm a bloody wreck with worry.

Anyone else had problems finding bean at 12 weeks? I have a retrouved uterus so dont know if that makes a difference (it means it tips back into my body rather than flat)......also I can hear the swooshing of the placenta but that doesn't reassure me :(

Any tips where to look for bean? I've been looking very low down like pubic bone area, moved the doppler head all around to check all 'corners' and still nothing.

My 12 weeks scan is on Friday and I am seriously thinking of booking a private scan tonight as I cant cope with this worry for another day arghhhhh

sorry for the rant ladies i just thought it would make me worry less not more
:(

baby is tiny at 12 wks. midwife had trouble finding my baby's h/b at 15wks. try not 2 stress. i would wait a few more weeks b4 trying 2 use it again. from what i have read dopplers seem 2 cause more stress than they solve!

My midwife couldn't find a hb at 12 weeks and I have a standard model uterus ;). With a retroverted uterus I bet it would be even more difficult. Wouldn't that mean that it would grow back first before growing up and over the pubic bone? I know it's stressful, but it's fairly common to have problems finding a hb even up to and beyond 16 weeks. :hugs:

I threw my doppler as hard as I could darling! There are so many variables at this early stage which would make it impossible to hear bubs but still mean the little bean is happily swimming around. I could only hear my placenta but that is still a good sign in itself. There is a reason midwives don't do this until past 16 weeks, and that's because those little monkies like to move around! It really really stressed me at first babes, but hold out until Friday and spend that cash on your little bubs :hugs:

This is one of the reasons I didn't buy a doppler myself as I just knew I would get into a right frenzy. Although they give you piece of mind, they only do when you can find the heartbeat.

Laura - Everything will be fine. My midwife had real trouble getting a heartbeat from me at 16 weeks!!!! Your baby is tiny and could be hiding away somewhere or sleeping where you can't get to. What my midwife did was quite vigorously moved my tummy around and then sure enough it obviously woke up baby and moved into a position where I could get a heartbeat. Have you been able to get it before?

Please don't worry. I know how long away Friday seems but it will be here soon enough. This really is such a horrible time but on Friday you will be elated knowing that your little one is safe and sound, snuggled away :hugs:

i can understand your worry. But midwifes dont even look themselfs till 16 weeks as even then it can be hard to find and they are trained to do this. My midwife once couldnt find it at 25 weeks. Luckly i could feel the baby. What babys tend to do is miove away froim it. At this point you wouldnt even feel it. My midwife told me that the placenta wouldnt make a noise if the baby had passed, not sure if thats true or not. The only advise i have ever heard is to aim low when looking.

hey, i hired the same doppler as you and got it today, i tried finding it for ages and i had to get OH to try and he found it (hes a medical student and has had loadsa practice). so he put it on my bikini line with it pointing downwards....so it was at an angle if that makes any sense?

you could here the heartbeat but aswel all the background noise so we had the volume turned full up. its really hard to find and ill be putting mine away and using it in a few days i think. xxxxx

Hi sweetie I found that if I laid completely flat with my legs slighty elevated I seemed to find Jessicas better. At this stage baby is still small and it might be difficult to pick up. I found Jessicas when I was about 11 weeks. She was tucked just near my hipbone. I looked on the side that she was at when I had my early scan which helped.

If your picking up the placenta then thats a really good sign. Sometimes baby can be so close to the placenta the heartbeat can't be detected as its drowned out by the noise of the placenta. Also you retroverted uterus may make it harder to find though I aren't 100% sure on that.

Please try not to worry too much I am sure it won't be long til you find babys heartbeat. x

Agree with the other ladies, dopplers tricky and it is still early. My midwife wouldn't use one til 16 weeks with my daughter. They whizz around. By 12 weeks the placenta might be making the hormones, meaning less morning sickness.

Not long til Fri - have got my 10-week scan then and am worrying like mad. Scary. Fingers crossed for us both!

Hi Laura,
Congrats on your pregnancy!
I wouldn't worry, 12 weeks is still early and your little one is still tiny.
If you have a retroverted uterus it tilted towards your back, a 'normal' uterus is anteverted and tilts forwards, therefore would be easier to pick up baby's HB on a 'normal' uterus.
I don't really like these dopplers, they are not as accurate as the one's used by midwives/doctors and also what you might be hearing may be your own heartbeat, although the baby will be loads faster so you should be able to tell the difference.
Let your little bubba grow a bit more, then you'll hear him/her! X

Hun, try not to stress, my mw wouldn't check the hb because she said it would be too early, it wasn't before my 17w that she could do it.

Also, 12 weeks - likely symptoms could be easing off now, they say between 12 and 16 weeks.

Hang in there hun x

Laura ur worrying urself unnecessarily hun. Try and relax now. Youve had a couple of scans. Morning sickness does tail off at this point, so thats normal.

Start enjoying the pregnancy hun, because you will look back and wish you had. I know its hard, and easy for me to say, but i just want u to relax and enjoy this amazing experience!

Big Hugs hun! xxxx

If only it was that easy, pregnancy will no longer be enjoyable for me tbh, way too many bad expereinces. wish I could tho, hopefully as time goes on I will relax more, let's hope so anyway xx
