I'm so bad about taking prenatals. Am I terrible?

Hi
I'm finding it so hard to remember taking my vitamins. I'm used to taking a multi every day. About 6 weeks I bought some prenatals and I thought they were one a day for like a week or two. Then I looked and they are three times a day! Sometimes I remember one and then take a multi as well. And sometimes I remember twice a day and more rarely I take all three. Is there a brand that's only one time a day?
I guess I think too that women have had babies for thousands of years with no prenatal vitamins. I normally eat pretty healthy and balanced.
Am I the only one? Am I going to be a bad parent? Lol
Any advice welcome.

nope your not alone and no your not going to be a bad parent lol

*tip* put them beside your toothbrush, or something else you use daily!

I'm also very forgetful when it comes to taking my prenatals. OH gets after me about it. Other times I don't want to take them because they make me even more sick. :( I feel horrible about it too. I did take them last night.
But then had super bad stomach acid vomiting in the morning. :dohh:

Whether we take them the 3 times a day or 2 times a day, we aren't 'bad' parents. :hugs:

there are plenty that are once a day. you just have to look. ive never really been into taking vitamins or pills period.
i set the alarm on my phone for noon to remind me to take it. most of the time i take it before then if i remember and as the weeks go on, i get better at remembering.
no youre not going to be a bad parent, just try to get into the habit of taking them
and if you continue to use the ones that are 3 times a day.. set an alarm for 3 times a day
they arent like birth control where you have to take them at the same time every day
just as long as you take them!
h&h 9 months! <3

I've had bad MS lately and on the days I feel worst I cannot stomach the smell or taste or size of my prenatals. I've skipped the prenatals twice in the past 6 weeks since I started and baby will be fine. I do think it's important to take them if you can but many women have had babies taking no prenatals. It's more to supplement the mother than the baby (minus the folic acid, which is very important for baby)

There are loads of prenatals that you only have to take once a day. I have mine next to the bed and take one soon as I wake up (or could do just before bed). The most important thing to have is folic acid. Birth defects can easily happen if you don't have enough. I am super careful and take 5mg which is 10 times the dose the insist all pregnant woman have. It is safe to do so as this is what they give women who have suffered early losses or have had babes with birth defects. I have seen too many women on here suffer the heartache of losing a babe to stand the chance of the same happening to me over something so simple.

I'm not saying you need to panic if you forget the odd tablet...I just felt concerned with the responses of "in the old days women didn't take them" or "I forgot in my first pregnancy and all was fine". Maybe so...but is it worth the risk?

I was really good before I got pregnant I was taking them daily with breakfast and then after I got pregnant I was told to take them at night so I was taking them with dinner and doing good until morning sickness set in and then when I took them it made the sickness even worse so I started taking them right before I went to bed and I was having a really hard time remember to take them then. I now bring a drink with me to bed and that helps me remember the prenatal. If it was more than once a day I am sure I would forget too.

I think with both my previous pregnancies I just sort of stopped taking prenatals after about 4wks. It was a combination of forgetting and just hating having to swallow a giant yucky pill. I really hate taking pills.

Anyways, on my doc's suggestion since I was honest about my lack of prenatals, I started taking Flintstones vitamins. It's a fruity, chewable children's vitamin. My doc told me to take 2 once a day. I was in the habit of giving my older son one each day so when he got one, I got 2. That worked really well.

I agree with 2016. I was off prenatals for several weeks in first tri because I couldn't keep them down. I asked the nurse about it and she said the only essential thing is folic acid.

Your prenatal probably doesn't exceed the upper limit on folic acid so you could perhaps get some 400mcg folic acid pills and take one every day whenever you remember to take your prenatal. Then you'd be covered.

But also, others are right, there are plenty of brands that you only have to take once a day.

I was finding it hard too, so I set an alarm on my phone to go off everyday. Also I take Rainbow Light One, and it is only once a day and not bad at all!

Sorry if I came off judgemental or anything in my last post. I was typing on my phone then my son woke up and I didn't get to finish. I also meant to add it of course does NOT make you a bad parent. A bad parent wouldn't even think about these things, they just wouldn't care.

Also, the plain folic acid tablets are really really cheap and tiny...so even if you feel sick you should manage one. I also keep a bottle in my handbag so if I forget I can take one there and then. Also if I am sick and think I have lost the tablet, I just take another since you can't overdose on them.

I don't take prenatals, other than 5mg of folic acid and 10mg of vitamin D. Just before I fell pregnant I had my vitamin levels checked and all were fine, and my doctors all say since I'm not being sick and eating healthy I don't need to take them.

I'm worried about missing some of mine as I'm already having to think twice about whether I have taken them today or not, so am planning to get one of those pill boxes with compartments labelled for each day of the week.

I have one, and it's great for keeping yourself organised! Especially if you have to take several different pills.

You could try to take gummy prenatals! I take Vitafusion Prenatal gummies and they have all the folic acid in them you need.. so much easier to remember to take then pills.. and they taste awesome. Plus they have DHA.

My doctor told me to hold off on the pre-natals until I got my morning sickness under control. 13 weeks and I still haven't taken a pill (except for folid acid when I can)

I took them on and off in my first tri with Eamon, but didn't this time as they made me sick

Aw dont worry 2016! I didn't think you were judgemental at all. Thanks do much for your advice everybody. And gummy prenatals? Mmmmm! Unfortunately I already have high levels of dhea so I don't know if I could take those.
