My baby girl is 2 weeks and 4 days old. At 5 days old we were feeding her (aptimal) 1oz every 4 hours. The midwife said that wasn't enough so we increased it to 2oz every 3 hours. Since then she seemed more hungry so now she is on 3.5oz every three hours. Is this too much? The thing is the past few days she has been vomiting like 7 times a day. Am i overfeeding her? Should i reduce her milk? I'm scared i'm making her ill.

I would really talk to your doctor about this. 3.5 oz does not seem like that would be too much for her, but it's really just a good idea to confide in your doctor and see what they think. She may also have a little bit of reflux if she is bringing up that much vomit a day. When she spits up, how much is it?

Not too sure about formula amounts to be honest.

Is it just spit up or full on projectile hit the wall on the other side of the room vomit?
If its projectile and loads and loads of sick then probably best to see your midwife or the gp.

Do you wind her mid feed and the end of a feed to get a good burp from her?
It could be that she has trapped wind and brings up the milk thats on top of it.

Have you read the side of the tin of milk to see what it says she should have and how frequently?

I would expect a baby as young as yours to be feeding at least every 3hours maybe 3 to 4oz's.....

Sorry i couldn't be more help i only b/f and its kinda hard to tell how much my LO has but when she was same age as yours she was feeding every 2hours.

:hugs:

I dont know about bottle feeding Rach but I just wanted to sebd you  and one of the girls will be along soon to help - dont worry honey - you wont be making her ill. xx

Thanks girls. It is projectile and normal sick. Sometimes thick and sometimes watery. It says on the milk container that for a baby 2-4 weeks should have 4oz every 4 hours but thats for a baby weighing approx 8.5lb but Maley is now 6lb 7oz. Should i make her wait longer for a feed or reduce the milk to see if that affects the sickness? The thing that made me think is miss jaceys post about how much her son has at 5 weeks. He has the same as Maley! But she is 2 and a bit weeks younger than her son!

When Erin was a few weeks old, she was taking 2oz every 3 hours and she put on weight fine. She was 6lb 12oz at birth. When she takes too much milk she throws the lot back up - so it could be that your baby's stomach can't handle that much milk. I would ask your doctor or midwife for more advice. xx

I never went by what the darn midwives or nurses told me I always made about 4 onz and let max take what he wanted , babies give sure signs they are full when they start to push away or turn there heads ..or better yet when this young they usually play with the nipple ..

I always made sure to burp my son every onz until he was about 3 months as he too was always bringing up milk once I go the hang of burping him he was ok .

If she is vomiting she could either have reflux or a sensitivity to cows milk.

I went through the same thing with Jasmine, she always seemed hungry and then ended up vomiting and gagging etc... And her poop went very watery and green.

We changed to nestles alsoy andthe vomiting went away, and the poop is more normal.

Hiya, i know i said Tye is only taking 3oz now ans still is but before he would finish the whole 4 or 5oz! I was breastfeeding him when he was the same age as Maley so im not sure about how much he took then lol But i do know when he is full up and doesnt want anymore he lets me know and pushes the teat out his mouth with his tounge and turns his head away and wont let you give him anymore when you try. Does Maley do that or just finish the whole bottle everytime? It might be she doesnt know when to stop but is taking to much and thats why shes sick.. You could try to reduce the milk a little bit and if she is still hungry after im sure she will let you know and you can just give her more!

I've reduced her milk to 3oz but i pull out the bottle at 2 and a half oz and if she moans i give her the rest but if she dont then i assume she has had enough. She was vomiting through last night but i just fed her and she only took just over an oz and fell asleep. And wont take anymore! I have docs later on to see what they say
