I'm worries there's something wrong with my daughter.

Are you weighing her regularly? If so keep a diary of her weights. A young child should not be losing weight. I'm shocked your GP was so dismissive.

This may not help your worry about your daughter, but I'm in medical school and used to be a medic so maybe sharing my perspective on this issue with help. You should never allow a doctor to make you feel like you are an inconvenience or feel embarrassed about going in. Your doctor is not doing this for charity, this is his JOB and he is PAID for this, and you are his customer. I have zero tolerance for people, whether medical professionals, service techs, teachers, or store employees who give me an attitude or act like I am inconveniencing them by simply asking them to do what they are paid to do. I remember once working on the ambulance, a lady had called us over a scratch, yes a scratch (she had psych issues as well). Was it annoying to us? Perhaps a little, but I'm on the clock and I'm doing my job and being PAID so whether she has a scratch or a massive heart attack, she will be treated respectfully and given my attention and treatment. If I don't like my job, that's my problem, not my patient's problem. Never allow your doctor (or anyone) make you feel like your concerns don't matter or that you are an inconvenience to them because you are asking them to do what they are paid (very well) to do.

Thank you for that. What i probably shoudnt say is I am a nurse and have worked in the sister practice. I'm not very well myself (blinding migraines, recently had viral meningitis, been commenced on propanolol and sumatriptan which i haven't coped with well) When she had a go at me i just burst in to tears. Normally i would push and tell her the new routine for getting an appointment is a joke and also that i explained the situation to the receptionist and she made the decision to put me though to the doctor. But, i just couldnt do it. She has gone down about 1kg which i suppose isnt great for a 3 year old to be loosing. Age 3-4 clothes dont stay up and i cant go anywhere without the double pram because she gets exhausted. Like i said before, i have been to the doctor so many times between my migraines, gallbladder problems and my son has been really poorly too so i just feel like they are annoyed by me. I changed my appointment to another doctor and as soon as the sister practice opens to new patients i will be moving there.

Not a fan of google searching but have literally no idea what it could be thats wrong with her at all. It worries me that im missing something so obvious. Stupid doctor making me feel like this!

Well GP was as useless as ever! Asked a few question and said its normal this time of year for kids to have back to back viral infections. Despite my efforts i was pushed out the door so to speak.

Even knowing viral infections are common im still not convinced its that. She's just had 3 nights of vomiting, none during the day and no diarrhoea. She has a nasty temperature of 40 which reduced to 39 after calpol but took days to settle fully. She slept a total of 32 hours out of 48 and is so lethargic she cant even walk to the shop (8 minute walk) without wanting carried. She isnt eating much and is falling asleep in my arms every day which isnt like her at all. Why wont the GP listen? It could be something so simple but they just wont even try to figure it out. My jelly bean has zero energy and its not fair :-(

Honestly I would push so hard on this. My daughter was like this last year when she was only 7 months old and the doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong at first, she was admitted to hospital and they just put it down to an unknown virus but she kept getting ill and it turned out that she has a rare condition. I don't want to scare you so I won't go into detail about it but if you want to know more please feel free to pm me. If you aren't happy with their diagnosis then go ahead and be that pushy parent, you must advocate for your children. Big hugs, I hope she's ok, it's scary when you know something isn't right isn't it xx

That must be so worrying, especially since it sounds like it's been going on for a while now. My daughter went through a spell a few years ago where she just had illness after illness, it was horrible. Don't give up, keep persisting with the doctors. They're like gatekeepers but the more you persist they will refer you to someone who will actually do something :hugs:

So sorry she's ill is she vommiting at night cos of nasal drip it could explain why there's non in the day. Also could her sugars be low or high that can cause vomiting for some people.
Not sure your financial situation but could you book a private gp appointment here it can be as little as £50.00 .
I'd keep a diary a weigh her regularly I'd also by a blood sugar monitor.
Hope you get some help soon.

Could you share what happened with your LO? You wont scare me but if you dont want it shared over this i will pm you.

Im not really sure what to do now. I am trying to get her registered with the other surgery but they arent taking patients right now. Even tempted to say she lives at my parents so we can register with my old surgery in that area. If i see another GP in that surgery they will probably do the same.

When she was around 16 months she got a horrid flare up of her eczema which ended up infected. I had to do the whole telephone consultation nonsense and was given cream without her even being seen. It was a steroid cream that shouldnt have been put on those wounds. I ended up phoning nhs 24 got an appointment the next day and was the same GP i had spoken to the day before. He got really annoyed at me when he seen his entry in to her notes then when he seen it obviously realised his mistake. She ended up on antibiotic cream and suspension, and is now scarred from her scratching her skin clean off. I feel like a total pushy person but they are my little ones. I just want to cry right now. So sorry for ranting xx

This is medically negligent in my opinion. She clearly has something going on, and he is doing sweet FA. It isn't good enough. I'd take her to the nearest out of hours service, explain everything, and demand they do a blood test at least. She could have become anaemic for example, yet he hasn't even taken a sample to check for this and rule it out?? It's just crap.

Ok, I'll apologise for the essay now, as I know it will be long! She was 7 months old the first time she became unwell, she was very lethargic, wouldn't attempt any solid foods, would only BF and was sleeping most of the time. She projectile vomited a few times. We took her to the gp who said it was just a virus and would pass. It continued on for another week, ended up taking her to the walk in centre who heard a heart murmur and sent us straight to a&e. At a&e they couldn't hear a heart murmur but were very concerned about how lethargic she was so admitted her for further tests. We stayed in hospital for the weekend and they started her on IV antibiotics, ran blood tests, urine tests etc but couldn't find a reason. She got better and we went home. One month later the same thing happened again, off her food, sleeping lots, lethargic, random projectile vomiting and she also developed crossed eyes or a 'squint'. I took her to the gp again who insisted she just had a virus but would call the Eye clinic at the hospital to discuss the sudden squint. They asked us to bring her in straight away. When we got there, we saw an orthoptist first who said it's not unusual for a baby/child to develop a sudden squint and in her opinion it's not an emergency and that I was wasting their time! I explained her other symptoms which she brushed off. We then waited to see the ophthalmologist. He dilated her pupils and had a look behind her eyes at her optic nerves.

This is where things changed. He said there was pressure on her optic nerves behind her eyes and she needed to be seen in a&e straight away. He called through to the paediatrician on call to have them meet us at a&e. She was admitted again and again they ran blood tests etc, but also a ct scan, MRI scan and a MRV scan. They were looking for a brain tumour. All scans were clear. They decided to do a lumbar puncture to test the csf for infection. When they did this a huge gush of fluid shot out instead of dripped out like they were expecting. This indicated high pressure. Over the next 2 days her squint resolved and her eyes were straight again. Her symptoms improved and she was alert, happy and eating again. We saw the ophthalmologist again before being discharged from hospital and he advised that the pressure on her optic nerves was no longer there. Fantastic news.

4 weeks later, the symptoms started again (but not the squint) I took her back to a&e where I was told by the doctor that she's just teething, nothing else wrong. I took her back the following day and they admitted her again and after consulting with a specialist hospital, decided to do another lumbar puncture, this time being prepared with the correct equipment to measure the pressure of the fluid. They measured the pressure at a 48, average for her age should have been around 13. Again, after the LP her symptoms improved. This happened a few more times, including a 2 week stay at the specialist hospital. They diagnosed her with a condition called Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension, which is basically high pressure on the brain by increased CSF with no known cause. They tried medication but it didn't work and with the pressure going up so often (at one point it was 10 days between hospital admissions) that they decided to insert a shunt into her head that would drain the excess fluid to her stomach. That was done in January this year when she was 11 months old and since then, everything has been great, no further hospital stays or episodes or increased pressure.

I just want to add here that I'm not saying that your daughter has anything like this, just that if you feel that there is something wrong, you must trust your instinct and make sure they investigate fully and don't fob you off.

Oh my goodness. What an awful time for you and your little one. Shocking how bad some doctors are! Hope you guys are all recovering! Thanks for sharing your story and although it's not the same as my daughter it just highlights how much you have to push to be believed. I'm fed up hearing 'viral infection '
I will definitely go back and have her seen again. Really worries me that something simple is missed that could turn in to something nasty. x

I haven't got reading all the replies but can you take her to out of hours so you get a different doctor. It doesn't seem right, hope you get some answers!

I have phoned NHS tonight for advice as she has been complaining of really sore knees and has now passing white poo (sorry TMI) I'm just waiting for a call back. Nurse alarm bells ringing but hopefully nonext of my worst case worries are really what's going on x

Hope you get a call back soon. Thinking of you and your daughter :hugs:

Thank you, that's very kind. They have called back and asked to see her tomorrow morning. They don't feel I should lift her from bed where she is resting for something that could be seen about in the morning. Hopefully get some answers x

My LO once had very, very pale poop after she had been unwell for a few days, and it did go away in the end, but I was so worried as I know this can be a sign of liver problems, as I am sure you do too. She had a really swollen stomach as well, which was frightening!

For her, though, it just turned out to be a natural, temporary response to being ill. I hope this is the case for your little girl too, as she has been sick recently. It's good that they are seeing her tomorrow, hope everything is ok. :hugs:

Just skimmed through your thread. What an awful time you're having with the doctors, there's clearly something wrong and I hate how too many things are passed off as vital!

I hope you can get some answers asap and your daughter is alright.

Well we are still no further forward. She is sleeping from 7pm until 8:30, manages breakfast but hasn't eaten a proper lunch or dinner in months. Even Christmas day with all the sweets and cakes she had toast for breakfast then ONE sausage. Didn't want sweets, chocolate or ice cream. Been to the doctor and he just thinks it's recurring viral 'thing' ! I've made an appointment with the only gp that listens but he's not available until first week in February. I still have to take the double pram everywhere as she just can't walk for any amount of time. Braved the park the other day to see if she was maybe liking the attention but she just got upset. She wanted to climb up but kept telling me she was tired. Really don't know what to do :-(
