Thursday 31st May 2012 (37+1)-
At 21.30 I was sat on the couch with the hubster watching TV, thinking about heading up to bed. I went to sit forward and felt a bubble burst in between my legs, followed by a huge gush. I just squeeled and said to DH "Ooh, ooh... my waters have gone"!!
At this point we both looked at each other with utter fear and disbelief!! I rang labour ward for advice and DH called his Mum, followed by my Mum. We were told that we were to go for monitoring 4 hours after my waters had gone. That's when it hit me...We're having a baby!! We both went into panic mode. I got in the shower to shave my bits and bobs and the hubster went and finished attaching the door frame in the nursery all the time muttering to himself that he can't bring the baby home to an unfinished bedroom!!
As I got out of the shower I started to get strong period pains so, inbetween huge gushes of water and trying my best not to ruin the new carpet and bed, I got hubby to pop my tens on. Absolute god send. I love that machine!
I soon realised that the 20 maternity pads I'd bought would be nowhere near enough the way the waters were coming, so on the way to the hospital we went to the 24 hour Tesco. I was waddling around breathing through contractions that were now coming every 7-8 minutes with my tens wires hanging everywhere. I just didn't care at the time!!

When we got to the hospital they hooked me up to the monitor and confirmed regular contractions, but said because I could talk through them they were happy for me to progress at home. They also confirmed that my waters had gone, but said they wouldn't check how dialated I was due to the infection risks.
As I went to get up from the bed more waters just flooded out of me. At this point I had 2 mat pads on and I soaked through both of them wet my trousers down to the knee and left a puddle on the floor. I was so mortified I just burst into tears. Of course it's nothing that the midwives hadn't seen before, but at that point I just felt that I'd lost control of my bodily functions... In hindsight I obviously wasn't in established labour, because later on I really didn't care about any bodily functions!!!![haha :haha: :haha:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/haha.gif)
So home we went. I sent hubby to bed for some rest and I settled on the sofa with my contraction timer app and tried to nap.
Contractions continued through the early hours, every 5-7 minutes lasting 1-1.5 minutes. I was also quite sick and generally felt sorry for myself, but I did manage to close my eyes in between contractions which was good.
Hubby woke up at about 9am and was quite shocked at how strong the contractions had become so by 12pm he had convinced me it was time to go in again. That drive was the most uncomfortable journey of my life. I'd hate to think what people were thinking with me groaning out of the car window like some soft porn star!!
We got taken to a room and they agreed to an internal with the possibility of some pain relief. I was terrified that I'd be 2cm, but I was 4cm... I nearly jumped off that bed and hugged the midwife!
They gave me gas and air, but to be honest it made me so drunk that I barley used it. I generally concentrated on my breathing and boosting my tens machine to get through each pain. I carried on contracting regularly until 8.30pm, when I felt my body want to push. I was checked again and was 9.5cm. They just told me to let my body do what it needed. There was so much pressure and such an intense need to bear down. Every time I tried to move or use the loo I had to push, but they weren't really effective pushes, just enough to clear my cervix.
The rest is a bit of a blur to me, but apparently my contractions lost momentum. They were 5 minutes apart and not strong enough to make me really want to push. I was also severly dehydrated and hadn't eaten or really drank for 24 hours.
Saturday 2nd June 2012 (37+3)-
At midnight we were transferred up to the consultant led unit so they could start an oxytocin drip so that we could get these contractions to be strong enough to push effectively. It certainly worked, but with each push I was fighting my body as I was so scared of the feeling it was giving me. It felt like my insides were pushing out. I even remember asking for an episiotomy so her head could come out easier!! After 3 pushes on the oxytocin I could feel her head crowning and after another 2 pushes she was on my chest.
Pure absolute bliss. The hubster was down the business end and saw everything, he cut the cord and cried like a baby. It was the most amazing experience. Our baby girl was perfect, she had a rash for the first 48 hours, but that soon cleared up. I had a deep second degree tear which needed stitches and also 4 grazes to my labia, I used the gas and air more during the stitching than I did during labour!! We also had a bit of trouble establishing breastfeeding, but again that's now sorted.
She's just perfect. It feels like she's always been here. I can not imagine life without her and she was more than worth all the waiting and all the pain and heartache. I want to do it all again!!![Happy Dance :happydance: :happydance:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/happydance2.gif)

So all that is left to do is introduce Miss Imogen Bella Dunne, born 2/6/2012 at 02.58, weighing 8lbs exactly.
