Implantation or Period?

I've been off BCP for 7 months, was having long cycles (up to 40 days) and just started using OPK test this past month. Looks like I ovulated on 6/13-6/14, about 13 days ago. Yesterday and today I'm having cramps and spotting. I am not expecting my period for another week (long cycles!) and I've never spotted with no period within 24 hours, so I'm hoping its implantation - but it certainly feels like right before I get my period.

Any experience with this? How can you tell the difference?

If you ovulated 13 days ago, your period will arrive in the next few days, not in a week. The beginning of your phase, when you are waiting to ovulate, is what makes a long cycle. The end of your cycle, the luteal phase, should not be longer than 16 days, 14 on average. Hope this info helps figure it out!

I agree. Your cycle length is based on two things: your ovulation day and luteal phase. Your lp is the clockwork part of the equation. It rarely deviates from cycle to cycle, and if it does it is usually only off by a day. An average lp is 12-16 I think. 20 days is way too long. Mine is 12. So on 12dpo I spot and then the 13th day I get my full fledged AF. So if I O on CD 28 -> a 40 day cycle. O on CD 12? 24 day cycle. Or how about O on CD 18? 30 day cycle. The only way to know your lp is through bbt charting or confirming O with an ultrasound, but even bbt is a better picture. Ovulation is what can be temperamental due to hormones or stress or our bodies being dumb. Especially big changes like stopping bcp can affect your o dates. Let us know if you have any questions!

This isn't to say that you can't have implanted this late, but without temping you just have to wait and see.

I have been wondering the same thing about myself.

I never have spotting mid cycle and started spotting 8 dpo and 6 days before AF was even due. It was very light pink and only appeared when I wiped. This lasted 4 days. On the last day it turned brown (like end of a period) and went away. I felt sure that I must be pregnant and it must be implantation, but I took a couple tests and they were BFN.

Today I woke up on supposed AF day ready to try another test and had started bleeding again. It's still not very heavy, didn't wear a tampon- and now is going away again. My usual periods are always on time and last 5 days so this is very odd for me.

I'm just wondering if there's any chance that I'm still pregnant? I am so confused and not sure what is going on with me.

Thanks for the reply. I do not know what this could be either. Didn't at all feel like a normal period. Today I felt crazy emotional, and extremely tired-- took a mid afternoon nap which is out of character for me. I thought I'd wait and see how long this cycle of bleeding last (although it seems that it may only last for today) and go from there.

It's gotta be a hormonal thing if your emotions are out of whack. Wether or not it's pregnancy, only a pregnancy test can answer that. I'd explain the weird bleeding and ask nicely to have your levels, including hcg, checked by blood. Hugs. Sorry your body is confusing you!

Hi, Im new to this site, me and my partner have been ttc #2 since feb! My period is due 3rd July, on 22nd June I noticed a slight red mark when i wiped and then faded to light brown, I never usually spot befor my period! I tested this morning and was negative. Unsure wether could have been implantation bleeding or not? Anyone able to help?

Hugs. I know. I'm sorry. I've been Preggo 3x but I don't have success stories people want to hear. I'm definitely the queen of sometimes a weird cycle or period is just a weird cycle or period or a gigantic ovarian cyst. My last period lasted 2.5 days and filled a total of one maxi pad. But I would do blood test. If it comes back negative, I would consider the latest string as af and definitely temp next cycle

Hi Julie! There's always the possibility of implantation bleeding. That's the same issue I've been questioning- however, I would think it is too early for you to test just yet. If you are due AF on July 3, you still have about a week to go. I would wait until expected AF and test again. Goodluck to you!

Hey! Like Laar said, it is early. It takes anywhere from 2-4 days past implantation (sometimes longer) to get a positive hpt. Wait at least two days then try again. And use a sensitive, pink dye test like first response early result (frer) fxed

If it can help some, I had implantation bleeding with this pregnancy. On 9 dpo ( ovulation confirmed by ultrasound), I had a single streak of red blood in my cm after a bowel movement. I tested 2 days later and clear positive!

Sorry to tag along to your post but i have a similar situation and would love some advice. I got off depo 9 months ago and had the last shot a yr ago and so i have crazy long cycles. the longest to date 120 days, af came on after i stopped taking vitex so im not sure if the vitex caused ovulation or if my body just couldnt support the lining anymore. It seemed like a normal af though complete with cramps and all. Anyways i started temping like cd 40 of the and had confirmed ovulation with temp dip and watery cm on cd 50 i don't get ewcm like i can only remember having it once in my entire 26 yrs. Anyways ff said that because of longer cycles i should have tested at 18dpo but on 15dpo i started bleeding like actual bright red blood but it only lasted for a few hrs and then i had a mucky brown discharge for about 4 or 5 days after it stopped. I don't know if i should consider that af or perhaps its late implantation. what do you ladies think????

Strange light period or implantation bleeding?

I'm going out of my mind!!
Bit of background....
Thursday 2nd July
6 days late my cycle is 30-33 days.
Light cramps & "O" like pains
pain 2 inch below belly button, pinching.
No major cramps before or during no pain in boobs which I normally get.

6th "late day"
3pm
Pink watery spotting 20% on pad pinky very watery.
Lasted 5h dissipated,
Came back 3h later,
2am -again pink & watery 20% then dissipated pinky/brown on pad.

7th "day late"
Light cramps
Am
Brown discharge bit slimy 15% on pad, never had that before!
Used tampon
Afternoon 2pm more brown slime no clots but jelly like, lots of clumped "slimy silly string" when removing tampon,sorry TMI
6/7pm
Pad on -
watery blood/pink/red/brown still light.

8th late day
am
Woke with red blood on pad still less than normal, equivalent to 5th day of normal AF.
12 noon tampon in.
Dull aches
2pm Tampon change 20% of Tampon - red & brown.
6pm change Tampon 30% red pink & brown

9th "late day"
woke with night pad on 7am
30% red & brown
Niggily dull aches but not notable.
New pad on 7am till 12 noon
Tampon in @ 12 noon
Had scrambled eggs on toast didn't eat much feeling "off it".
1:30pm checked Tampon pink & brown just on outside of it nothing soaked in.
5pm T same, removed & swapped for pad.
10:30 clean pad & wipe very pale pink wipe, hardly noticeable.

I have never had this before, my periods are medium to heavy with first 3 days heavy, no brown & no brown slime.
The spotting/blood was not even 10% of normal AF.
I have had a lap & dye test 3 years ago & told I have blocked tubes due to delightful parting gift from my ex.
Another strange thing this month was I had what I thought was an "O" bleed it couldn't be "mid cycle bleed" as I don't get it every month this month I also had painful "O" my theory is that I do in fact have one tube open hence "O bleed"

Hubby & I did the deed 3 days after "O bleed" due to argument so I really thought I missed this month ovulation, waited for period to try again.
I don't temp so I'm not 100% on ovulation I go on "O" pain or if I have occasional "O" bleed

Two days after strange bleeding did pee stick BFN, if it was implantation bleeding then I would get BFN as it takes a few weeks after implantation to show BFP
I could have ovulated later but doesn't work out with the "O" bleed,that's all I have to go on.

14 days after 1st day of spotting CB digi BFN, if I was pregnant I would be 10-14 days pregnant surely CB digi would pick it up?
I have read late O/late implantation can cause very late BFN do I wait for next AF?
My next AF is in 23/25days....
A long long wait!!!!!
I will have no finger nails by then or do I get blood test @ Dr's?
Has anyone had this & resulted in Late BFP??
My body can't be playing nasty tricks I have never had this before.
